I had been wondering about this... good advice - though I'm surprised. I wouldn't have thought a nasal mask would have been any more useful than pillows if I have a nasty cold...

I meant a nasal interface mask...cushion or pillows. Sorry didn't make that clear.

Besides...some people who get a cold actually find that they breathe better with the humidified air helping clear up the congestion.
Doesn't matter if it is a nasal cushion mask or nasal pillows. In over 8 years I have had more than my share of upper respiratory infections and I just crank up the humidity (think how a hot steamy shower helps you breathe when you have a cold) and most of the time I wake up with a clearer nose than when I went to bed.
I have yet to have anything that was so bad I couldn't use a nasal interface mask and in fact didn't even own a full face mask for 6 years.
I have owned one now for 2 years (Respironics Amara View hybrid type) and still haven't ever used it. Just got over a nasty flu that I caught in the doctors office late October...never needed the full face mask despite some rather ugly congestion. I just treat the congestion like I normally would and get the nose opened a little and go to bed with my nasal pillow mask and wake up with a clearer nose than when I went to bed.
Which would last only a short while and I was back to a stopped up nose.

Sometimes with congestion I do up the pressure a little bit.
Instead of Sleep apnea it should be called "Sleep deprivation, starving of oxygen, being poisoned by high CO2 levels, damaging the body and brain while it's supposed to be healing so that you constantly get worse and can never get healthy Apnea"

You know I have heard several people say they did that. I just haven't ever really had the need to do that to see if it would help me more or not.

Mask Question....

So I have my follow up appointment with my sleep specialist tomorrow morning so they can collect the data from my week titration trial - from there I'll get my prescription and order my machine/mask etc.

I've settled on getting the Airsense 10 Autoset for Her. During this this trial I've been using the PR Nuance Pro. It seems to be working just fine. Is it perfect? No - but is any mask? My main question is - if it seems to be working fine (and presumably will just continue to get better as I continue to be familiar with it) is there any reason to try other masks? I've been considering trying the AirFit P10 but don't know if trying to acclimate to another mask is worth the effort if I seem to be adjusting to the Nuance Pro just fine.

Thoughts? Any big downsides to the Nuance after long term use that I should be aware of that I wouldn't know about already after a week of use?

No urgent reason.

But for me the fact that I just might be curious about something is a good enough reason for me to try something new or different.
It's not urgent though.
Gotta learn to tell the difference between want to and need to. For me "want to" probably carries more weight than "need to".

No downsides to using the Nuance that I know of. I liked the pillow part great with it but it had just too much "stuff" in terms of the headgear which annoyed me. But that's me...I want as little on my face and head as possible and I will try anything that is a minimal headgear for that reason.

Up to you how experimental you want to be with things and when. You don't have to do it right now...you can always experiment later.
