Call the FDA and make a report if machines are failing. I believe this to be a more widespread problem. The more complaints the more likely they are to deal with it.

You can do a quick google search to find the FDA contact info for your area.

Still a good suggestion.
Especially when the item is medical equipment.

A recall generally means that they'll fix up, even after the warranty period. Generally, even long after.

Since this is critical medical device, they should give you a loaner in the meanwhile (even if it's another brand or model).

Just for the record, I used my F&P from 2005 when my AEIOMed from 2009 bit the dust last year, until I got a new machine from my insurance. This is still my backup machine. It's hard to knock a company when I'm still able to use their 11-year old CPAP that had plenty of wear and tear.

I barely used my icon and it quit. Would not power up at all. I had it for 4.5 years. Norco (medical supplier) knew there was an issue and had me come in. They got me a new machine and said F&P knows there is an issue of manufacturing defect and they are extending their warranty. I got a brand new machine right then and there. My experience was that F&P is trying to make it right. My machine was almost 3 years out of warranty and I still got a new one.

My machine is one of the models in the recall but they said the serial number is not one of the ones covered. My machine takes a while to power up (hour or more) so to me it is a bad capacitor. I love my machine and it is 4 years old. FP gave me a reference number and said they could only talk to my supplier who is also the doctors office. The doctors office called me back and said that I could trade my unit in for $275 for a new machine.

To complicate matters they are putting in for a new machine for me from my insurance. I should get it, but I would like to have the other machine as a good working spare. I am thinking of pulling the unit apart and finding the bad capacitor and replacing it.

I contacted FP again asking if there was any other way or better price I could get and they said my machine is out of warranty and that is the current trade in price for a machine. There was a 2 year warranty on that machine and it is 16 months past that. I tried.

Or just buy one of the two major brands!

Just read your post about F&P CPAP's. I have the same unit as recalled with exact same symptoms as recalled units. My unit was made in August but the recall only affects units made in a 2 week period in December. Mine crapped out on me 3 years ago, been fighting with F&P and FDA ever since. Neither F&P or FDA will consider me part of the recall because my machine was made before the recalled units.

IMHO, whoever signed off on the remedy from FDA's was bribed to limit the scope of the recall. Why else would you not consider problems with the same machine from the same manufacturer?
