the bottom of my nose touches the mask

Post by bod » Mon Jan 15, 2018 9:57 am

Hi,

I have two nasal masks (Wisp and ESON). The bottom of my nose (collumela) touches the mask, it just rests on the bottom of the mask, not much pressure involved. After two days, this really turns into pain.

As I still have some mask leaks with the P10 and brevida, and as I had no mask leaks with the ESON, I would like to try another nasal mask.

Can you please advise a nasal mask which bottom is low enough to that the bottom of my nose doesn't touch ?

Thanks a lot to this very active community.

Bod

What SIZE nasal mask are you trying?
Cushions come in several sizes.
You may need a larger size.

Mask size :
-Wisp M
-Eson M

When I tried Wisp L, I saw no difference, the bottom of my nose touches the bottom of the mask. As if the size of the mask takes into account the size of the nose but not how deep the nose goes.

I also tried to set up the mask lower on my face but there isn't much to do.

How about Sleepweaver--Advance or Elan?
A cloth mask might work for you,
even though using one is very different.

Your nose can't touch with a FF mask...have you tried one?

FFM : I have an F10, lots of leaks near the nose (narrow nose) into the eyes. Not very comfortable in general to me. I didn't even tried to go to sleep with it. I guess FFM will be my last resort. You seem to be happy with yours.

I'm a thin noser myself and amara view works decently. no sores, but it is slightly tighter then I'd like due to my long nose. I'm thinking of going back to nasal pillows with padding. and taping
Instead of Sleep apnea it should be called "Sleep deprivation, starving of oxygen, being poisoned by high CO2 levels, damaging the body and brain while it's supposed to be healing so that you constantly get worse and can never get healthy Apnea"

For those of us who rival Jimmy Durante, we might consider a pair of shears to shorten the nose.

Or we could complain to the manufacturer.

Or try one f the SleepWeaver line. I like the new 3D and the Élan. My nose often touches the mask, but with minor adjustments a can prevent any pain.

I wonder if we have the same problem. I have a couple different standard size Resmed Airfit nasal masks and both will move up during the night until they rub the bottom of my nose. Sometimes it hurts if it happens for too long. It leaks in my eyes when it does this also. I have not found any adjustment that will stop it from doing this. I have also cut some of the cushion away so that it doesn't block my nasal passages when it rides up. So far I just live with it and adjust the mask every time I wake up if it's pushing on my nose to hard and blowing in my eyes. Maybe there's a solution to this. Will be following along.

I had the same issue of the airfit n10 rising up and leaking air and pushing up against the bottom of my nose and making it hurt. I fixed both issues by having the mask straps lower on the back of my head so the mask was held straight to my face rather than tending to be pulled upward by the straps

I had the same problem with the F10 and some other FFMs. I have found the F20 works for me. It appears to be narrower at the top of the mask where it goes across the bridge of the nose.

Wish it was that easy with the N10. I try to get the straps as low as possible, but it always seems to work it way up through the night.

Try the Innomed/RespCare Hybrid (click on it in my signature) that has pillows and an oral cushion. Out host sells it with return insurance. There is a 3rd hybrid-style FFM called LIberty.
