Someone did mention something about the weight and I set them straight (I think it was my x-wife actually and one other person) but they accepted what I told them. Partially the benefits of being a man sadly. I'm sorry they treated you this way.
After 7 years I doubt if they are worrying about it, in case they will the answer is not likely, and if so very likely it came back, but of course, if you stopped XPAP, you have no way to know, because your bed doesn't collect full data. Jim

I am very careful what I reveal and talk about to people. People just love giving their opinions and supposed expertise on subjects. Only my family and a couple close friends know about my apnea diagnosis and c-pap. Your story makes me realize that I have made the right decision. So sorry you had to experience this.

He did tell me not to care what she said, but said that would be like telling someone who has cancer "Why not just eat better and your cancer will go away!"
Your son has it SO right! The assumptions people make are simply ghastly and sometimes worse, it's the doctors making the assumptions. So, maybe it was better that you were overweight - at least you got diagnosed. As others have already mentioned, so many thin people are not diagnosed because they don't fit the norm.

You get the same thing about diabetes or any other widespread medical condition commonly associated with fat people. You have a large block of people who are simply know-it-alls and truly believe they know it all. On rare occasions, I will ask someone if they would like advice, but for the most part, they just want validation and have already made choices (in other words, they want to hear nothing more).

I'm fortunate in that most of the people I've spoken to about my cpap machine only want to ask me questions about it which often leads into discussions about where to get affordable machines/supplies etc. The only person who talked about losing weight (herself, not me) was unaware that weight loss may not eliminate apnea, so she made an appointment.

Sometimes all we can do about bad medical advice is to recognize it,
and RUN in the opposite direction.
The purveyors of this backward thinking are already SURE they are right.
Hopefully, they will not harm anyone.

Is it the Wayback? I can't even figure out how people are finding these ancient threads to exhume.

They are the archived posts from the past, the wisdom and foolishness aquired from 2004 to now. over 10,000 pages. If you must read the past instead of living in the now, and trying to make your treatment better, go for it.

BUT: Try to think for yourself, and if you must ask questions, (That you can't read for you own,) Put enough effort to start a NEW thread, with some current thought. If you must, both sides of everything has been posted here hundreds of times, good luck finding a new point of view. Jim

I had a bad crash in my race car 4 years ago. Broke both shoulders, ribs and other things. Because of that I had to,and still have to , sleep on my back because it hurts on my side but I can live with that. I never had OSA until two years ago I was waking up gasping and you know the drill. Went to the Doc and was sent to a specialist and told her this and she said that'll do it plus I had gained 25 LBS from too much sitting around after my three surgeries over a two year period. I lost that and 16 more and feel much better but still OSA but the good news is I'm back racing or I'd go nuts. The Doc at the sleep center, in the hospital, said the weight would aggravate OSA and the weight loss will help but will not cure it.

You found a smart one.
Consider keeping him.

The portal to the "wayback machine" is hiding in plain sight: upper left - called "search."
