Mouth noises w/BIPAP

Post by DLR » Mon Jan 08, 2018 4:30 am

It's nearly 0230 and I have gotten out of bed because this problem is driving me up the wall and I finally have done a web search.

My BIPAP and mask (Swift FX) work fine; there is no humidifier. But ~~I~~ am making noise via the mouth. Sometimes it's a whistling sound as air travels between my teeth, sometimes it's a cheek 'fluttering' when air escapes between my teeth and my upward cheek (I'm a side sleeper) and still other times it sounds like a garden variety belch.

These sounds have woken me in the past and more frequently prevent me from falling asleep.

If anyone else has experienced this problem and found a cure, I'd love to hear about it.

You are exhaling out your mouth...Try a chin strap, or, tape your mouth ..if all else fails, go to a full face mask.

I hadn't considered that because it doesn't seem like I'm fully exhaling through my mouth. HOWEVER, in the absence of any other explanation, I will try your suggestion.
