water in the hose (tubing)

Post by Mook » Thu Dec 28, 2017 2:08 am

Happy Holidays! I have a Philips Respironics REMstar Auto A-Flex System One CPAP machine with humidifier attached. I use the nasal pillow, Swift FX. So this morning as I awoke there was water everywhere...coming out of the tubing and collecting at the nasal pillows. Any idea what's going on? Thank you.

It's been pretty cold lately, if your room has been colder than usual you may have gotten rain-out in your tube, condensation that happens when the warm moist air out of your humidifier hits the cold tube. You can prevent rain-out by putting a cozy over your hose (You can make one easily by sewing a long tube out of polar fleece or you can buy one) or upgrade to a heated hose. I find I have to keep my room a little warmer than I did pre-cpap.

Lower your machine so it is lower than your mattress....route the hose over your headboard so the water runs downhill back to the humidifier...get a heated hose for your machine....use a hose cover......any or all of the above

What you experienced is call rain out. It is fairly common with cpap users. The water condenses in your house. As advised, keeping the machine lower than your head will cause the water to run back into the machine instead lying in your hose. A heated hose will help keep the water in the vapor state and not condensing. Hope this works. Write back if it don't.

Going to a heated hose a few years ago solved that problem for me.

Turn your heated humidifier down.
