Can I use an old mask

Post by Jerseyguy » Fri Dec 08, 2017 1:25 am

I been having leaking trouble which I think is due to mouth breathing. I do not have any more mask exchanges but I do have an an old ffm that's hasn't been used in a year from a previous attempt at CPAP. Is the mask ok to use if thoroughly cleaned or will the seal be off due to its getting dusty. If not I have to pay for a new mask

I would wash it and give it a try. Cushions do wear out, and it may end up needing a new cushion. I have two masks, one stays with my travel machine, so it doesn't get used as much. I have had that mask (And cushion) for over a year. It still works well for me.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Hi Jersey
I use a resmed quattro ffm which has a removable cushion. I often take them off and boil them for about 10 min or so, this kind of brings them back to life. This also increases the life of the cushion...good luck with your cpap adventure...

I do the same with my Quattro, but I found that boiling for just a couple minutes does the job.

If you find you wish to try the boiling trick. This thread has some examples and explanations.

I had better luck when I boiled and rinsed in distilled water. My first attempt was with tap water and my tap water has a high mineral content.
So if you have hard water...I suggest using distilled water.

If you want to get just a new cushion...check EBay. I have seen some killer hot deals on mask cushions there.

Yeah, me too LSAT, I just had a brain bubble and couldn't think of how long I actually boiled them. Prob 3-4 min is good.

If 'jerseyguy' refers to the state and not the island, I can send you a brand new Respironics GoLife for Men nasal pillow mask in its original package along with an extra frame; all pillows (S,M,L are included). If you want it, it will cost you postage only. It is no longer manufactured, but replacement pillows are readily available through ebay and online.

Let me know if you want it.
