Repironics System One Auto - can it titrate?

Post by ractar28 » Thu Nov 30, 2017 12:30 pm

It appears from the documentation that I can set min and max and set it into a-trial mode and after 30 hours, it will set to the 90% mark automatically. Is this realistic? Yeah, I know, no gizmos attached to my skull and body to read different stuff, but it seems like it might be a reasonable solution. After all, we all need to be tested periodically. For me, I was at 12cm originally, before surgery. That was 20 years ago. I had my last machine set to 12-16 auto, but found that when it went to 16, it was nothing but "blow out" from a mask leak. Increasing to 20cm would have just made the leak even worse.

On a side note, I tried nipple grease with my Sleepweaver Anew and let me tell you, my nipples have never been softer. LOL. Actually, the leak rate was amazingly low.

I personally don't like the automatically changing to fixed pressure after 30 hours in the auto trial mode because I have had personal experience with widely variations in the 90% pressure numbers plus that doesn't cover the "or below" part of the definition of 90% numbers.
I have had 90% numbers of 17 and I only needed 17 for maybe 45 minutes out of 8 hours. I sure wouldn't want to be using 17 all night long when 11 works great the rest of the night and that's what the machine will do when it adjusts the pressure after 30 hours or whatever in the auto trial mode.
I prefer to use the regular auto mode and set my own tweaks for optimal performance.

Now if a person never saw much variation in the pressure might not be such a big deal but if a person is like me and needs more pressure in REM then it simply doesn't make much sense to use that higher pressure all night just to deal with maybe 20% of the time that we might be in REM.

And do remember that the only thing these machines can record or respond to is air flow. They don't have a clue as to whether we are asleep or not.
Hopefully our awake air flow isn't all too much different from our asleep air flow but it can happen that awake breathing confuses the machine and makes it do things it normally wouldn't do.
