Dry nose HELP! heated tube / classic humidifier not working!

Post by satsumass » Sun Nov 19, 2017 2:52 pm

Been having a real hard time with my System One bipap. Heated tube never manages to put out enough moisture for me, and either the dryness, airflow itself, or heat dries out nose so bad that it causes severe dripping, itching, watery eyes (like a histamine reaction) during the day. It makes me so miserable.

I usually set it to heat level 3, moisture 3. I also have on my hose both the blue resmed insulator as well as a soft grey fuzzy thing over it. I try to sleep around 60 degrees or lower.

Classic humidifier mode works much better but I get rainout no matter what! C3 works pretty well in summer time with enough moisture and no rainout.

I’d love some suggestions. I’m so frustrated...I’ve actually had to start using CPAP again...I had MMA surgery two years ago...really didn’t do the trick long term though I feel a bit better than I did before. But I do still need the CPAP sadly.

(Went to my great dentist and he did some xrays...it looks like it’s my soft palate not lower airway which did open up after surgery....soft palate “tents up” into nasal cavity at end of exhale instead of relaxing downward...so nasal openin*is the problem in non CPAP breathing. He says it’s likely neuromuscular....reflex issues.)

Thanks for help!

Consider using Classic mode but with a stand alone heated hose like the Hybernite if a hose cozy isn't enough to prevent rainout.
Classic Mode will give you the added moisture your nose wants and can't get with the integrated heated hose.

What is the highest humidity setting your have tried with your heated hose on the System One?
Do you know what the ambient humidity is in your house?

=======

the tube does not do the moisture
that is the humidifier

you need the heat to stop rainout

try a full room humidifier to help the dryness
turn down the heat
lower humidifier to avoid rainout

And Captain Obvious strikes again!

Why do people suggest reducing the humidity setting for rain out issues when someone clearly states that they don't like less humidity?
For those who aren't familiar with Respironics machines...Classic Mode is heat only to the water chamber and the ambient humidity sensors aren't used...so Classic mode really cranks out the moisture and rain out is common because the heated hose is also taken off line. What we do then is what we did for years when there wasn't the nice integrated heated hoses available.
Use hose cozies or stand alone heated hoses like the Aussie or Hybernite. Classic Mode is pretty much what we all had back before the new integrated heated hoses were added as an option.
