Cold and cpap

Post by Hornnumb2 » Thu Nov 16, 2017 11:34 am

Well last night was the first night in 2 years of not sleeping with my mask,I have a cold and my nose is running and the nasal pillows just wasn't working. Seems like I woke every hour and had the worst night, which I am sure the cold is not helping but I am so use to keeping the mouth shut it was hard to breathe through it. Hopefully the cold won't last to long....Michael

You now have a clue what FF Masks are for and decongestants are used for. Jim

I humbly say that when you have a cold a cpap can be asset. Slept like a baby last night (first time in weeks) with nasty cold.

Do you actually know how a baby sleeps. We have a 6 month old in the house (since birth) and he doesn`t sleep well at all, same with his big brother who is now 3. My babies (3) didn`t sleep well either, they toss and turn and cry when they are ready for a feeding every couple of hours. That old analogy about sleeping like a baby ...sucks big time.

To the OP, most of us sleep just fine when we have a cold WITH our machines just like every other time. If you can`t sleep with nasal pillows use a full face masks for when you need it.
I have never had a problem with a cold and nasal pillows as a matter of fact it helps me breathe through all the congestion.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Hi Michael,

You also might want to see if raising the pressure would help. When I had a cold last month, doing that made pap therapy tolerable. Unfortunately, my Simplus was not comfortable but for many people, full face masks do help so definitely have one on hand.

If you don't know how to raise the pressure, you can get a manual for your machine that will give you the instructions.
