Mask leaking disturbing my husband

Post by Janicetig » Wed Nov 15, 2017 6:46 am

Hi-
I have been a Cpap user for about ten years. My problem is my husband hears air leakage (I do not hear anything). I use a Phillips Dreamwear nasal mask. I have ran out of ideas to solve this problem. Help!!

Get a husband that can sleep through a tornado (like I used to be able to do)?

Are you having your mouth pop open and he hears the wind tunnel? If so, I have no suggestions, because it happens to me. I have been trying a FFM, and it allows my wife to sleep - just not me.
Phillips 960 AutoSV Paving Brick, Phillips Dreamwear Mask - Nothing is working.
Diagnosis of crappy sleep, desats under 80, maybe UARS

I had the same problem. Changed from a Resmed P10 pillow mask to a Resmed F20 full mask and problem solved. I guess when my mouth opened I produced a 'tornado' (her description).

For me, that's a great solution for my wife, but the FFM wakes me up all effing night by getting in the way.

The wind tunnel never woke me up, it just gave me a dry mouth, which I could live with. My wife, OTOH, starts shoving me or waking me up when I'm making that much noise, so I don't get sleep either way.

In fact, I have been on CPAP/ASV for 3 1/2 months but haven't had a decent night's sleep in 10 months or so.

Other options include (but are not bound by)
1. chin straps (the best I found are target black headbands... 8.99 for 5, and they are far more comfortable then the CPAP ones, and the elastic helps encourage the mouth staying closed without forcing the teeth together.)
2. hybrid mask (the innomed orAmara makes one? )
3. Tappap if you can stand the dental appliance (no straps which is nice)
4. Total full faces masks by phillips resprionics (though their vents give off what could be generously called white noise).
Edit: 5 - cervical collars... A few people on the site use them
Currently I've been using the hybrid, yesterday night was my first night with the total full face mask, to mixed results. excellent sleep, though I did still wake up a couple times. I'm also trying the Fitlife at CPAP.com, because they are running a free return insurance deal on it right now.

Instead of Sleep apnea it should be called "Sleep deprivation, starving of oxygen, being poisoned by high CO2 levels, damaging the body and brain while it's supposed to be healing so that you constantly get worse and can never get healthy Apnea"

Chin straps don't work - my lips just fart at high pressure. Tape doesn't stick to my skin, or sticks too much to my hairs.

Been using a hybrid Amara View - it seals well - if you NEVER move while you sleep AND sleep on your back or sleep on your side on a padded brick (CPAP pillow).

Can't stand anything in my mouth - hated mouth guards in martial arts.

Total face mask would NEVER work for a stomach sleeper.

Yep, I had the same issue with chin straps... Pressure equalization. That's why hybrid, or total full face mask for me (since regular full face masks leak right into my eyes no matter how tight I make them (Thin nose bridge and also indented)). Taping also didn't work for me.. same reason, my hair follicles are so thick that tape just doesn't seem to work no matter how close I shave. Duct tape might but who wants that? my innomed hybrid seems to be okay. I have to pull it a little tighter than I'd like because apparently I have a wierd mouth shape. Medium isn't wide enough for my mouth opening, but large doesn't maintain contact well. so I go with large but it's so tight in order to avoid side leak for the mouth piece that I have to use padding (moleskin in my case), but that's why I moved to full face, but I've never been a stomach sleeper.
