Repairs out of warranty
Repairs out of warranty
Anyone had any problems with a Resmed Air Curve 10 Auto Bipap? I believe mine is 3 years old and the warranty is for only two. With the Respironics M series and less, they would replace them with refurbished or repair yours for about $200 or $250. I know there are private firms that do repairs, $100 trouble shooting fee plus cost of repairs. Mine just stopped last night and would not come on. It could possibly be the power cord. I contacted my HMO, Lincare and will take it there to see what they say. Has anyone had to deal with Resmed repairs? Think I should invest in a power cord first? ($67 on one site)
Re: Repairs out of warranty
The plug is hot. I plugged it directly into the wall outlet. No power. I have a surge/battery plug in that other items were plugged into...and didn't work. I made sure the plugs were good and straight too. It has been working fine and last night just did not have power. Lincare said I've had it since 2010 but I don't even think they were out then. Being on medicare, I can get one every 5 years with copay. So at 73, that would be 2 machines and two years remaining before I can get another. Hence I believe this one to be 3 years old. Seems I paid the 20% over a year period, like $24 month. I just don't know if a power supply would go bad. I don't have another 90 watt to try it. Also it still calls in daily reports but not now.

So much depends on insurance. 1st if/when using insur. you should get a loaner. The DME will then send yours out for an estimate which will determine whether it is repaired or replaced.sthnreb wrote:Anyone had any problems with a Resmed Air Curve 10 Auto Bipap? The events tend to happen at the most inconvenient times so most seasoned veterans will have a spare of anything needed to sleep until this process if over.
Re: Repairs out of warranty
They should be able to swap out a new power brick and see if the power brick is the culprit. That's a pretty easy fix to try and your equipment supplier should have one handy.sthnreb@comcast.net wrote: I contacted my HMO, Lincare and will take it there to see what they say.
Power bricks can and do die.
Of course it might also be something inside the machine that isn't so easy to troubleshoot or fix but it's worth trying easy first.
This place does repair and I think they now do ResMed brand repair also. You might give them a call if you can't get any help from your equipment supplier.

Re: Repairs out of warranty
I believe Medicare will pay for the repairs on your machine if you send it to an approved repair facility. If the cost of repair is too high, they will replace the machine even if it has been less than five years. This is the reason many of us have back up machines to use if the primary machine breaks. I have one back up machine for my life and I since we both use the same type of machine. In fact, she used my back up machine before she got her own machine. We held off getting her a machine until we found out she would not need to have an ASV type machine.

There are some useful replies. I didn't know medicare would pay but every 5 years. It does make sense though if it breaks down and it is something needed they would assist with repair. I too have a Respironics M series bipap auto for back up. I also have two other Respironics bipap autos. I suppose I should sell them if they are worth anything. Bipap Pro. Now I have to wonder if my software will work. Is there still sleepy head software? I've been using a bipap auto for 17 years now. Thanks for the help and information.
