That's too bad, you'd think you would able to get more than 3 years from a machine these days.

As I explained in another thread this morning (Intermittent Problem with AirSense 10), I've been having the same noise problem for the past three days. It only occurs when inhaling/exhailing. In addition to the noise, the exhaust from my mask is so intense at times that it will stand a sheet up. The unit is only seven months old.

I took it to my DME a couple of hours ago and he swapped it for a brand new unit based upon my explanation of the problem.

Many of the units swapped are REBUILT or Remanufactured! Personally I be disturbed if my unit was almost new and it was replaced with one that wasn't new. Jim

Most people wouldn't know if the one they got was new or rebuilt, they also buy their car by the color, not by quality. You would be better off letting your dog choose your car, they are color blind. Jim

That's not all there is to it, check the outlet port.

page 24 of the clinical manual. (or "reprocessing the water tub and air outlet" if the page numbers have changed.

Beyond confirming that the data on the machine indicates 0 run hours (Clinical Settings>About), what other means do you suggest to verify that you're not getting a refurb?? Do you think they take the timers out and roll them backwards like a used car dealer does with a speedometer?

Sorry the new tub was not the prob, but like Palerider said, check the outlet port. It may be pinched or something. Troubleshooting a problem is not hard, just takes time...good luck Steve.

Yes, I'm as serious as a heart attack. Please enlighten us on how to confirm that you have received a "new" unit.

Look your DME in the eye when he tells you it's NEW, if he has two eyes, he's probably lying! Jim

And to CN, they don't have odometers in them, they are reset with software when refurbished, I don't trust refurbed, could just dusted off on the outside, maybe just the top.....

Well, it sounds to me like everyone accepts it as "highly probable" that we can't trust anyone or any procedure when it comes to determining whether or not we have received a "new" unit. That being the case, we're all f_ _ _ ed from the beginning and probably until the end. I can accept the high probability that I received a refurbished unit today with all the software flashed to 0 hrs. usage, etc. I think I can live with that if I can use the unit without it moaning throughout the night and blowing my sheets to full vertical. The DME told me that a new 2 yr. unit warranty began today, not eight months ago when I initially selected my "refurb." If this one goes bad, I'll be back. So far I'm doing very well with cpap therapy and I've yet to spend one cent.

Actually, I personally couldn't possibly care less, all but one of the machine's I've bought were used.

Must be fun thinking you can't trust any of 'them'. (like pugsy says, who is "them"?).

The DME can't reset the hours or to a technical refurbish job on an ailing machine...they send them back to ResMed for that.
You likely got a machine today that is brand new...the hours are easy to confirm. DMEs don't have the personnel to do equipment repair at that level.
New warranty starting today...as it should.

Now what ResMed does with these machines that get returned for warranty issues...we don't know.
Do they turn around and reset the hours and fix them and pack them in a box labeled as "new" and send them back to the DMEs or do they return them to DMEs with a clearly identifiable "refurbished" label....I don't know.

Personally I don't worry so much about the chances of the machine I got being a refurbished unit or not. It has the same warranty and as long as it works I don't care. I try not to expend too much energy worrying about stuff I have zero control over or zero chance of finding an answer for a question. I prefer to use my energy on more productive stuff that I have some semblance of control over.
