Replace water tank & hose?

Post by Cinco DeMeo » Wed Oct 11, 2017 4:10 pm

My water tank and air hose seem fine to me, even though I've had them for several years. Is there any need to replace them?

Not necessarily, but be sure you have back ups on everything

Not a bad idea to have a spare of each, but I would keep using them until they fail. My original hose is fine, but I cracked the latch and had to swap tanks once. For me, the things to change out fairly regularly are the mask and headgear. They gradually start causing annoying leaks.

According to one of the manuals (sorry, can't remember if it was Respironics or Resmed), the water tanks are designed to last 2.5 years. I see no reason to toss something that doesn't leak and keeps a good seal. Same with the hose. Always have a backup.

Regarding replacement of humidifier tank and hose;
My three years on CPAP, and now using a newer model, I change my hose every 6-months and water tank once/year.
Reasons to change hose or tank:
- cracks or change in color. When plastic, silicon or other plastic-like items change color is a sign of age and wear.
- mildew build-up on the cracks and crevasses of the S9 tank. This can be cleaned with 50:50 bleach water and a toothbrush.
- My insurance pays for a changed in hose 2x per year and and new water tank every year
- I also change my nasal cushion (F&P Elon) every three months

My maintenance & cleaning cycle
- HOSE: clean once a week week wither and isopropyl alcohol (IPA). I use a hand-held shower and blast the hose with warm water, followed by IPA swish - and completed with a final rinse. Hang dry and fanned.
- TANK: clean once a week with IPA and water. I Make sure it's dried thoroughly before using.
- nasal cushion: clean every third/forth night.
- CPAP filers: as needed or as discoloration occurs

Noteworthy items.
- When cleaning with IPA, do rinse thoroughly - alcohol will dry and crack plastic
- I usually shower/bathe prior to sleeping - facial oil build-up is a non issue
- If any sign of cracks to plastic parts, be sure to change immediately. This may impede your device's performance and hinder you with a good night sleep.
