Ultimate Nasal Dilator

Post by Stormynights » Tue Jul 02, 2013 8:54 pm

Has anyone tried this? I have a hard time breathing with anything that touches the side of my nose and I just can't get my leaks in control. I got a new Wisp and I have to use the cushion that is too large and that makes more leaks. I was wondering if this might help.

Stormy, I found this URL from a Google search. Is this the product you were referring to http://nasalaid.com/?

Yes that is it. Looks like a paper-clip on your nose.

Are you like me....anything that puts the least little pressure on the sides of the nose where the turbinates are will cause congestion. That's one of the reason why I won't use any mask that goes over the nose and touches that area.
Not to mention the other leak issues that come with those masks where there is simply greater surface area to need to keep sealed.

Have you ever tried the nasal prong mask? You know those things that do get shoved up in the nostril and inflate?
I gave them a try but I ended up being an in between size and the sizing just didn't work out for me. Those things will inflate and keep the nostril and airway open... Size has to be spot on though....too small and it won't seal and too large and the inflation will hurt. That's what happened to me...small didn't seal quite enough and the medium hurt like the devil when inflated.

This may sound counter-intuitive, but you could try a total face mask.
The seal is only around the perimeter of the face.
Outrageous, yes, but for some, it works!

I don't get congested when I get pressure on my nose. It closes off my airway. I tried the prong at my sleep study. It felt like a blowtorch up my nose and I tore it off before the tech got out of the room. I also tried the total face mask and that thing wouldn't seal at all. It made the worse face fart noises I ever heard. I wouldn't be able to wear that even if I slept alone. Maybe if I get really mad at Hubby I will use it again just to punish him. I get jealous when I see someone post graphs with flat leak lines. I think that is why I keep so many masks in the drawer. I see flat leak lines with the Swift FX at higher pressures than mine. I just want to be able to get my leaks under control and I am grasping at straws. I love my machine and I just want to really love a mask.

Are you talking about pressure on your nares (from nasal pillows) or pressure on the bridge of your nose (from a full face mask)? If you can tolerate pressure on your nares, why not try the hybrid? I know it's not for everybody, but it works for some. Rooster/roster is testament to that. If you can tolerate pressure on your nose bridge, why not try the zzz by probasics? You may want to wear a mask liner, but it's flexible and doesn't directly touch the nose anywhere except across the top of the bridge. And you can press down into it and scratch the tip of your nose, since it's mostly silicone.

It is the pressure beside my nose. I tried both hybrids and gave them away. For some reason the pillows all leak too much. Maybe I am just too picky.

Yes I tried this ultimated nasal dilator and liked it.
I tried all nasal dilators actually. Some are effective but very uncomfortable (like Nasivent), some others are just jokes like Nasanita.
This ultimate nasal dilator was an acceptable compromise.
The best nasal dilator I've tried is Respifacile (it's made in Germany so 7-8 days shipping ) here:
http://www.respifacile.com/sleep-apnea
Little problem, this Respifacile is very effective and the most comfortable, but makes you look like a chimp, even if honestly I personnaly prefer looking like a chimp and breathing through my nose when I sleep... especially when you're sleeping in the dark, it's not a beauty contest...
My husband use it too, sometimes under total face mask, and other times just alone.

I had the same issue and tried all 3 sizes. I went into the real settings and lowered the max pressure and turned auto off.

Julie, Dallas might not have been paying attention to the date when writing a response. I have caught myself reading a thread thinking it was current only to find I was wrong. Fortunately, I never posted a response.

No big deal.

Breathe-right strips are easy to find, reasonably priced, and they WORK!
Avoid the knock-offs, only the real thing has the best quality.
If the dilator works for you, that is OK.
Anything that helps with cpap use is a good thing.
I read a lot of old threads in the past--never realized Snoredog had passed until years later.
