Sore under nose

Post by 4myCPAP » Tue Oct 10, 2017 7:35 pm

Hi group, I’m a new user, happy to be experiencing much better sleep. I responded well during my test to the Dreamwear mask with the soft silicone tubing under the nose. One week in, I developed a little white pustule between the nostrils. It was sore so the next two nights I put a tiny band aid over the little spot. This morning there is a new spot, directly above the first one! I’ve been trying to dry out these lil sores, with an antiseptic spray then Creme. I love the machine and the mask. I DONT want to try a different mask as I love many of its features.
Does anyone have experience w these lil sores and how I can get them healed, without giving up use of my machine?
Thanks

I had the same issue with the Dreamwear nasal cushion. Switched to the nasal pillow and it went away.

After my first few days with my AirFit P10 nasal pillows, I developed white pustules all around my nostrils, where the silicone contacted them. I had been warned by my DME RT that this was likely due to the fact that such delicate skin isn't used to constant contact. I touched it out for a few days, with some help from the good folks here, and it cleared up after the first week or so of therapy.

Bottom line, the skin needs to toughen up a bit. Warm compresses and Neosporin during the day, and a scant coating of Lansinoh ointment at bedtime to reduce friction, and it'll get better in no time. I did have one or two nights where my nose was just too raw to tolerate the mask at all, but they didn't last.

Also make sure the mask isn't too tight. I had the same thing the first couple days, but I'm using the Nuance Pro nasal pillows. Once I loosened the mask just a bit, I haven't had any issues since. You want it tight enough to stay on during sleep obviously, but loose enough that it isn't going to cause the pain/discomfort.
