in the mean time....

Post by Guest » Wed Oct 04, 2017 5:46 pm

I am doing my sleep study this week and expect it will result in a CPAP. However, from what I have seen I am still several weeks out before getting a machine.

Any suggestions on what to do in the mean time? I've been having trouble sleeping more than an hour or two for a while, now that I can hopefully see a solution I am anxious to get there.

Do whatever you can (stuffed backpk in behind you) to not sleep on your back as it provokes more events, and if you have a reciner, that lets you be somewhat upright (though of course the back sleeping thing then gets lost) it can also help. Be careful with any meds... time wise, etc, and don't do alcohol before bed.

The few nights I've been without my machine, the recliner offered the best relief (head elevated). I've also had good luck with sleeping on my side/almost belly. Don't let anxiety get the better of you.

I would educate myself on this disease and how to treat it successfully. Research this website top to bottom!

After your sleep study, call every day and ask about the results. This may piss them off, but they may speed up your results to stop you from calling.

Once you get the prescription, call the DME every day.

Yes, do not sleep on your back. This may give you a little relief while you wait for the CPAP.

Please update this thread as soon as you know more.

Whoops, when i posted i was logged in as Guest. No wonder i didn't see any replies.

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I have been researching this extensively, but most of the posts on this site are for when you have a CPAP, not prior...but that makes sense.
I am scheduled for Monday night split test and Wed morning review of results, so my Doc is moving on it pretty well. Not sure how the ordering will work (assuming I need a CPAP), but I am pushing on all levels.

Looking forward to this journey.

Thanks!

Use the time to educate yourself on the machines.
They would like you ignorant and desperate enough to take the oldest, piece of crud in the warehouse.
Surprise them, know what you NEED ( "want" to them--BS)--and accept no substitutes!
Threaten them if they try to get cute.

That might be a good doc. (Hopefully, not one with no backlog because he is so bad. )

If you post here about your diagnosis and prescribed treatment as soon as you get your results, we can give you some comments on which machines are suitable. It's usually a good idea to do this before you take delivery of any equipment.
