Question: Has anyone bought a machine (this one or any other one?) and did not get official training from a therapist or trainer or have someone set the machine? I don't trust my DME to bring the correct machine on Oct 7th and they said they will just "pull the best one off their shelf" and wanted payment on credit card over the phone first, and wondering if I should just spring for the extra $150 and buy the Air Sense 10 For Her online on CPAP.com with a doctor's prescription? Has anyone just set their own machine on their own with an instruction booklet? I know what my settings are on the S-9 and I know the Air Sense 10 For Her is totally different, but has anyone done this on their own? Don't trust that DME of mine. Thank you.

First of all the model names are clearly shown on the face of the machine. No way to miss them.
Give me a little bit and I will get you a picture so you can see how easy it is to see the model name. No one is going to go to the trouble to fake a name.

As to setting it up yourself....I just did it with the AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her that I got about 3 weeks ago.
Easy peasy.

The AirSense 10 AutoSet for her has 3 modes available.
the regular cpap mode...just like your S9 (I forget which S9 you have but they all have cpap mode)
plus it has the regular apap mode that the S9 Autoset has
plus a special for her apap mode which is easy to spot in the mode menu.

Here's the pictures so you can see the model name. You may need to click on the image to see the full screen and enlarge if needed.
All the AirSense machines have the model name in the same place
Some will just say
AirSense 10 CPAP...that's the half assed brick you don't want.
AirSense 10 Elite
AirSense 10 AutoSet
AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her like you see here

How can I tell if the machine is an Air Sense Auto Set? If it is in black (not the For Her). Will the Air Sense 10 say "AutoStart" on it?
All resmeds have the model name printed quite clearly right on the front.

I can't thank all of you enough for the photos (thank you) of Air Sense 10 for Her. Can you even believe that my DME wants to take the credit card on the phone for $650 but not know which model I am getting?? I am positive that I would have gotten a brick...
I think I will get a script from my sleep doctor and just buy it on line. (if he will give me a script when I am not getting official training)

Can anyone be kind enough to email me the clinician's manual for this machine so that I will know how to set it up? Thank you so much!!

Don't need to email the manual.
It's right here
https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf

It's a combo manual which is all ResMed does for the AirSense 10 machines.

It's just my opinion, but I would not give up $150 so easy. You can demand to know which model you are getting before giving the CC number. You can also refuse to take delivery of the machine if it is not the model specified. You can dispute a charge on the CC. CC companies are good about protecting you.

I think you have worked yourself into a nervous worry over the worse possibility. You should now have enough information to protect yourself. But that is just my opinion and the way I spend my money. You have to make your own choices.

Thank you Pugsy for the manual. I have not downloaded it yet. I appreciate it and will seek the Air Sense 10 For Her.

And thank you Chicago Granny for the advice. This DME wants the payment over the phone FIRST and then you pick up "whatever" machine on October 7th is available or comes in to them.
She cannot tell me which Air Sense 10 it will be on October 7th. Just that it is an Air Sense; a terribly way to buy something. I would never buy a car this way not knowing which model I am going to pick up and pay for the car in advance? Doesn't sound good to me. That is why my springing for the extra $150 while my boyfriend pays the rest sounds better. DME does want the money in advance with no telling me which one they will have on that date. Who buys anything like that? But I appreciate the advice on the Air Sense 10 For Her. I appreciate it very much.

Funny you should mention car. About 20 years ago, I wrote a $23,000 check to a dealer for a car I had never seen. After a few days, they called me and said my car was in and ready to be picked up. When I got there, the dealer had made a modification to the car that I had not approved.

I told them to get me the car we agreed on. They said I had already paid for the car and had to take delivery of it. I told them I was going home, and they should call me when they get the car I want or I would come back, tear $23,000 out of their safe and tear an extra hole in the general manager's body.

Two days later they called me and told me the car I wanted was ready for pickup. I kept that car 12 years.

Luthie2006,

Don’t give the DME’s “official training” too much credit. You have used a machine for over 3 years. You didn’t just fall off the turnip truck.

Read CPAP.com’s prescription FAQ https://www.cpap.com/cpap-faq/Prescriptions.html. You are not totally dependent on your sleep doc for your prescription.

I agree with CG. Take a deep breath. You’ve read many times in this forum that no one cares about your healthcare as much as you do. Good luck, Earl

Thanks Poppi:

I am not dependent upon my doctor for his prescription to order an Air Sense 10 For Her online? You stated that I am not totally dependent on sleep doc for prescription? Not sure if I am reading that correctly? I will read the manual that Pugsy sent and maybe order online once I get sleep doc's prescription in order to order online. Thanks. Now I know which one I want to order and will not have to be dependent upon my DME giving me the correct machine on Oct 7th. I will "do it myself."

Well, you do need a doctor.

Since I knew the results of my sleep test and learned here which machine I wanted, I printed off the prescription form in the cpap.com’s FAQ. With my test results, my family doctor signed my prescription.

I would stay with your sleep doc, unless you become unsatisfied. I was just trying to say that you do have other options.
