Weird "dripping water faucet sound" in S9 Machine

Post by Luthie2006 » Mon Sep 18, 2017 11:20 am

Good afternoon: I have been a member on Cpaptalk.com for a few years and apologize for not coming on sooner than now.
I still have the S9 Res Med Machine and have a question. I unfortunately, one night, transported my machine with water in the humidifier to a friend's house in a big hurry and did not empty out the water.
I am not sure if it was from that, but I hear a "drip" noise in my machine at night with and without hoses attached when the humidifier is in the machine, machine on or off. I called ResMed to see if they think water got into the electronic part of the machine, and they said it would have "dried" out by now if water got in there from the water sloshing around when I transported it. Does anyone have any clue if water can get into the machine or a gasket? I am not eligible for an AirSense machine now from insurance company but I can get one refurbished.
Second question, I have had wonderful luck with the S-9, is the Air Sense for Her a better machine? The DME said I can get the S-9 repaired (if need be) but I don't know if I want to spend that money on an old machine. Any clues for me? Thank you so much. Luthie2006

I don't know anything about the dripping water, sorry, but I am curious about S9 vs. Airsense for her. I have the Airsense for her, and my own limited understanding is that two things are different. One, the color of the unit. Two, that it has 3 possible settings, CPAP, APAP and APAP for her. I've had mine set on the "for her" setting for a long time now and found out only recently that the machine's pressure will go no higher than about 13.5 on the "for her" setting. So I was sometimes having long runs of OA's because my machine needed to go higher and couldn't. About a week ago I set it on the regular APAP setting, which can go all the way up to 20, which is a whole different experience. The pressure graph is more jagged and it was waking me up at night. The "for her" graph is much more gentle. I am adjusting to the regular APAP mode. If you need an upper pressure setting higher than about 13.5 then I don't know of any extra benefit you would receive from the Airsense because I believe that the APAP mode is the same for both machines. If anything I have said is incorrect I would be happy for someone to correct me, but that is my current understanding.

I wonder if you are hearing the world famous humidifier clicking noise which was a known issue in the past.
You say you hear it when machine is off...I assume off but still plugged in to electric...do you still hear it if you unplug everything from the wall plug?

Actually while there are some new minor features available on the AirSense 10...not enough to be that big of a deal if you can save a lot of money getting another S9.

I would stay with an S9 Autoset, so all your accessories will fit it.

The noise I am hearing from the S-9 humidifier is not a clicking but a trickle noise of water is the best I can describe it. I wish I did not transport it to my friend's house with the water sloshing all over the place in the humidifier and should have dumped out the water. I am wondering if water got caught in the machine. Yes, and after I turn it off (electric plugged) in I still hear a trickle. At any rate, please let me know if you think my S-9 is better for me to keep than a refurbished AirSense 10 For Her. I found one refurbished and wondering if an S-9 does a better job. My pressure goes usually up to 13. Thank you very much.

I was asking if you hear the noise if the machine was totally unplugged from the wall socket.

Try one thing for me...unhook the humidifier and set it aside so it isn't near the blower and see if you hear the water sounds in the blower unit.
I am trying to figure out if the noise is from the humidifier or the blower.
If it is the humidifier...I have a spare S9 humidifier I can part with for real cheap.

But you have found a refurbished AirSense 10 For Her????
Oh man...I am just now trying the AirSense 10 AutoSet for her and I am falling in love.
While technically I suppose that really THAT big of a difference than the S9 AutoSet except for that special apap mode....it's pretty sweet little machine.
How much of a difference in money are we talking about and do you know how many hours on the refurbished machine...or it just a used machine cleaned up?

Thank you Pugsy: I will try disconnecting the humidifier part from the S-9. I am looking at a "gently used" Air Sense 10, but not sure if I should get an Air Sense for Her or the regular Air Sense? My pressure on the S-9 is set at 11 and goes up to 13. Even the sleep educator doesn't know what is best for me?
Please let me know your opinion. Thank you so much.

Get the AirSense 10 for Her AutoSet unless there is a huge price difference.
It's like 3 machines in one.

You won't be sorry...I promise you that.
