Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset As Replacement For S9?

Post by donzi » Thu Sep 21, 2017 12:37 pm

My 7 year old Resmed S9 Autoset is starting to fail and it looks like the S9 is no longer available. I assume I will be looking at a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset as a replacement.

I prefer the S9 because a) I like the compactness of the unit without the humidifier for summer time travel, b) I have a 12 volt DC power supply for it, c) I have a few spare climate line hoses for it and d) I have a well established routine of pulling the data card to read into ResScan to monitor my data.

It looks like the Airsense 10 a) has a nonremovable humidifer, b) is incompatable with my S9 12 volt DC power supply and c) is incompatable with my S9 climate line hoses. What is the Airsense 10 like for monitoring my own data?

Is there anything I should be happy about with the Airsense 10 vs. the S9 Autoset?

You can remove the water container and put a cover on and shut off the humidifier. It will take up less room than the S9.

No reason to buy the latest and greatest if you prefer the classic.

S9 AutoSets are still out there if you are buying yourself.
If you are using a DME they most likely won't have any S9 models sitting on the shelf after this length of time since the release of the AirSense models.

Same as your S9 in that regard....except it doesn't over write the data every week so you don't have to do downloads weekly to avoid losing detailed data. It won't start over writing old files until a year has passed or the card is starting to get full. Also if you have Windows 8.xx or higher you don't have to lock the SD card when you put it in the computer any more...

There are minor changes in some features in terms of humidity settings and heated hose. Here's the manual..

According to the spec sheets, the Airsense 10 w/o humidifier is 215 cu. in. and the S9 without humidifier is 107 cu. in. (Don't forget you have to buy the optional side cover to use the Airsense 10 without the humidifier. No additional parts are need to use the S9 without humidifier.)

I bought a second S9 for exactly the reason that it is smaller than the Airsense 10 when the humidifiers are not attached. (I never use a humidifier.)

Thanks for the feedback!

I wasn't aware of secondwindcpap.com but since I'm going through Apria I doubt they have an S9 Autoset around. I love the fact the you don't have to download data every week with the 10. That is enough right there to convince me to get the 10 despite what seems to be a larger footprint than the S9 without the humidifier.

That just leaves the issue of my spare climateline hoses and DC adapter. What is the current policy for selling ResMed equipment? Still discouraged?

Also, it looks like the 9 and 10 both run off similar 90 watt power supplies but have a different plug. Does anyone make an adapter or have a wiring diagram for the power supplies? The S9 has 3 pins and the 10 only has 2 but I bet I could adapt my S9 12V DC setup to the 10.

I see ResMed sells a battery pack for $600+. Sheesh - that's ridiculous. And it has what looks like another custom 6 pin plug/cable. Id' like to use my current similar capacity 266 watt hour power pack that has a simple car adapter plug with my S9 DC power supply with an adapter or new plug.

Discouraged where?
You can sell replacement parts on EBay...or here on the forum.
You will probably get more money off of EBay...forum members are notorious tightwads.

I know nothing about the adapter stuff so not any help there but you could probably sell it..

Of course if you keep your S9 for a back up machine (and if you don't have a spare machine that is what I would do) then you would want to keep at least some of the spare equipment.

With the AirSense/AirCurve models the data files don't get written over so quickly as with the S9.
With the S9 the high def files get written over every 7 days...and some of the other files after 30 days. If you don't download regularly you lose some of the graphs.
With the AirSense/AirCurve models nothing gets written over until a year or the card gets full (which will usually take a lot longer than a year even with the small GB cards).

I haven't been active here for a few years. I thought reselling ResMed equipment was discouraged either by ResMed, the forum or both. Glad to hear it's not a problem.

Thinking about it, keeping the S9 for travel would solve the battery/adapter issue too. Another option! Thanks.

Do you know that if I start using SleepyHead software (rather than ResScan) will I be able to combine the data from the 2 different machines into the same reports?

Hoses, chambers, etc. do not require a prescription, so they can be sold by anyone, to anyone.

SleepyHead won't care how many machines are under one user profile.
I think I have one profile with 6 different machines.

Who cares what ResMed thinks? Once I buy it...it's mine to do with whatever I please.

As far as the forum...private sales are allowed...only problem is when someone is using the forum as their own personal newspaper ad and all they do is sell stuff and not really use it personally.
Don't abuse it with multiple ads...keep all your products in one thread and only bump as needed. Common sense really.

No, it won't. The S9 without humidifier is smaller than the Airsense 10 without humidifier.
Airsense 10 with humidifier is however much smaller than the S9 with its humidifier attached...
