I refuse to use a FFM.

I have had far fewer colds since using cpap and when I did get congested the cpap pressure helps clear it out so I can breath thru my nose and use a nasal pillows mask.

When my nose runs like a river (each morning) from a dust allergy I take Loratadine. Cheap, effective and OTC.

I use the Dreamwear, I find turning up the hose temp, and humidity off (No water) clears me up great with a cold.

Skipping CPAP is not a good option. I find that once I get the air moving through my nose on CPAP, it manages to keep working all night. Gets completely blocked or runs like a tap when I de-mask in the morning.

Having said that, I had very similar nasal issues to you before I got my CPAP treatment working effectively. Now it no longer seems to be an issue unless I have a very bad cold. I used anti-histamine and decongestants for a while but then someone taught me this trick to do just before going to sleep.

Take a normal breath in
Let a little bit of air out
Hold your breath
Hold until about 5 seconds after your first desire to take a breath.
When you start breathing again, breathe only though your nose (even if it is still blocked) and as gently as possible. You don't want to be able to hear (and only barely feel) air coming in your nose.
If your nose is not clearer, repeat this a few times with about 15 seconds break between each time.
Once you get at least one nostril clear, mask up and just breathe through your nose.
That sounds like it *shouldn't* work, but I will definitely give it a try!

Bummer, I don't have a heated hose - might request one ahead of time though...

Over my 7 years of xpap with colds and allergies, I have always been able to use my nasal pillow mask. After a few hard breaths, the pressure opens the pathway and keeps them open.

A month ago I was ready to cut a travel visit short due to constant sneezing (cats). I slept great, took the mask off in the morning and started sneezing again.
