PROVENT SYSTEM

Two plugs that go into the nose and keep open airway when you exhale. No mask and no machine. Approved by FDA.

Wondering--has anyone tried this? If so how did it work?

Eventually you'd have to go to a sleep lab to see if this works. Not covered by insurance (costs about two dollars a night and one time use). Does not work for everyone. You have to go to a sleep lab to see if this works.

Provent is not "plugs that go in the nose". https://www.proventtherapy.com/

There are plenty of people here who have tried them. It doesn't seem there is one who is using them successfully: https://www.google.com/search?q=provent ... e&ie=UTF-8

They really aren't plugs and they don't really go up inside the nostrils. They stick to the skin with adhesive and they offer resistance upon exhale that is suppose to create back pressure in the airway to help hold it open.
There's sort of a little valve where the open is for air exchange.

I tried them once. Had a helluva time getting them to stick and then more helluva time trying to exhale through them.
Extremely difficult breathing and I couldn't ever get comfortable enough to fall asleep. Felt like I was suffocating because I couldn't breathe normally and easily.

For those able to master all the tricks...and sleep...they say it offers about a 50% reduction in apnea events at the best...some would be less reduction. For me with an AHI of 50 something...at best would be 25 and that's still way too high but I suppose better than nothing but I couldn't ever even sleep with the damn thing so it was a moot point.

Something is better than nothing though. Some therapy is better than no therapy but sometimes not much better.
If it were me and I simply could not ever tolerate cpap therapy for whatever reason...I would opt for oral appliance and not a cheap WalMart boil 'n bite sports guard. One made by a specialist in the field that could be adjusted over time to bring the jaw forward and open up the airway a bit.

And do a forum search as well. I thought at one time they might at least be good for travel, i.e. on a plane, etc, but then they even say you need ?? 2 wks of use to acclimate to them before they're really effective, so that didn't seem like a great idea.
