Intimidated by Clinical settings Manual

Post by Sleeping Ugly » Tue Sep 12, 2017 11:35 am

Now that I more educated by the "ramp pressure" vs. "therapy pressure," I would like to adjust my beginning therapy pressure up a few degrees. Currently when I turn my Dreamstation Auto-Flex machine on, the therapy pressure on start-up shows 6.5. This machine works really well and I love the auto feature that raises the pressure when I need it, but I do feel strongly that I need a higher starting therapy pressure. I would like to bump it up just a bit, but when I looked at the instructions for the clinician manual, I became completely lost and overwhelmed. My fear is that I am going to change something I should not! How do I know which setting to adjust? There are so many and I am overwhelmed by all the terms and functions. My machine's max setting is 20, my 90% pressure is almost always in the 9.5 range. I have only had a few nights where I was at 11 and a 12.

I was cruising along at AHI's at 0.2, 0.4's and 0.5's, but the last week or so, I have been getting higher AHI's, like 3.3, 2.8's (I realize these are still very low). I am starting to get a lot more hyponeas.

Can anyone help me figure out which dial to spin?

Once you're in the clinician mode, push the button for "therapy." Turn the dial to highlight auto min. then press the dial. Now turn the dial to raise the min. pressure, then press the dial again to set it. If you're done changing settings, turn the dial to highlight "main menu" and press the dial to select. This takes you back to the clinician's main menu. You can scroll through the clinician's main menu until you find "patient mode." Press the dial while patient mode is highlighted and you're back in the patient menu. If you skip this last step, the machine will return to patient mode anyway. Hope this helps.

I'm not intimidated at all by all those settings. I think I will just start randomly changing all the settings without paying attention to any of them.

In my case that probably can't make things any worse.

I hope you're keeping a log of what you changed and how it worked for you.

A log? Why? I think if I did just start pushing buttons and dialing numbers, nothing would change - I would still get crappy sleep and almost fall asleep driving every day... ( 4 times on my 2 hour drive this morning - and that was while I was caffeinated)

If all you wanna do is crab, maybe you need to find a different forum... we're trying to encourage each other, not the other way around.

I'm not discouraging anyone, am I?

Maybe you have forgotten what it feels like to have gone 6 months without any meaningful sleep? And without any hope in sight....

Plus, let us not forget the 1st Amendment, and the fact that everyone is free to skip my posts.

You can scroll through the clinician's main menu until you find "patient mode." You're quite welcome. Hope I explained it well. It's all about turning the dial, then pressing it to select what you want to change, turning the dial again to the change you want, then pressing it again to put the change into effect. Turn-press-turn-press etc.

I just changed it! VERY easy with great instructions! THANK YOU! I will let you know if the pressure change helped!

I saw that my minimum pressure was never changed from my teeny tiny "4" that I asked the doctor to ask the DME to change, because they wouldn't do it without a RX.

But this leads me to another question. If my minimum pressure was only set to 4, why, when I turned on my machine, did the therapy pressure read 6.5? Why was my machine allowing that pressure? Where was it getting its info from to give me that particular pressure?

I can only guess that it actually was set to start at 6.5 and that 4 is the starting pressure for the ramp. Now that you've made the changes, your new lower pressure should be displayed when you turn it on.

Yes, when I turn it on now, I see the setting I just made, which is 7.5.

We'll see if this helps.

Thanks once again for helping me!
