Waking up after every REM (dream) phase. 100% compliant.

Post by ImOnTheInternet2 » Mon Sep 11, 2017 5:06 am

So I am waking up after every dream, about every 1 to 1.5 hours. That is the problem. I am 100% compliant, spend all of my sleeping time using APAP therapy. I only sleep 5 hours a day because I wake up so much and can't get back to sleep. I have been on APAP for 2 months now. And I am not sleeping better, still as tired as before. How can I solve the problem of waking during REM sleep every time? is my Auto not ramping up pressure sufficiently enough during REM sleep? Is it because I'm such a light sleeper that I only need 1 single apnea event to wake me? Should I increase the min pressure from 7 to something like 12 and see if I sleep through the night without wakings? I am reluctant to increase pressure because anything after 7 and I have a painful amount of bloating that wakes me up and I can't go back to sleep. Seems like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place

My machine is an Apex ICH Auto. I use a FFM, the Amara View. See my sleep report generated by the Apex ICH's software: https:// i. imgur (dot) com/oycM1gW(dot)png

I don't know much about the reports from your machine. It's looks like your pressure is doing a decent job. A handful of events are flagged. You could try a little more pressure and see if it helps or not but I am not so sure the problem is related to the events. Worth trying though...doesn't cost anything.
No...nothing like going from minimum 7 to 12..that's way overkill but maybe try minimum 8 or 9.

Waking after REM cycle is actually normal. The thing is that most of the time people just roll over and go back to sleep.
It's the staying awake and not going back to sleep that is the problem.

Google "sleep maintenance insomnia"....long list of potential culprits and that's what you have when you wake up and can't go back to sleep.

Also google "sleep stage hypnograms" and look at the normal hypnograms to see why I say it's normal to wake after REM.

Do you take any medications? If so what?
