The thread is from 2011, those posters are long gone, and I strongly suggest that no one take advice re big fat pillows when wearing a mask, not unless you want to block the CO2 vent.

I have had sinus issues for MANY years, somewhat allergy related, but it seems they've always been clogged. Some seasons worse that others. Apparently I'm allergic or sensitive to air.

Have had turbinate surgery etc. Nothing has worked well so far and over the years been on numerous medications and sprays, but recently, doctor has prescribed Pulmicort ampules, which I add to saline nasal rinse. So far, has been working GREAT!!

This is normally a medication for asthma. I have a medical plan which covers it's much higher cost though. I add one ampule to one bottle of Neilmed, which does 2 days (twice per day) at 60ml per rinse.

That's plain nonsense. Both entirely different meds. Flonase can be used twice a day. Best if Afrin is used as needed because it can cause a rebound effect. You can google Afrin for a better explanation.

i have used both
i know what the info sheets with them say

they are different meds but you should not be using both at once
else you risk much bigger problems

Again, NONSENSE! Many people with severe allergies use Flonase morning and night. If, on a day when allergies are especially severe or maybe they have a cold, Afrin can be used as needed. Doctors do caution against long term Afrin use because, as said above, it can cause rebound effect. I use Afrin at night when I have a cold, cautiously, but I use it right along with Flonase.

=====

totally irrelevant and illogical

i was a long term flonase user until it stopped working

i have used afrin

and several other Rx and OTC

afrin is potent stuff and you do NOT want to risk using it with anything else

As do I per my doctors instructions. Mainly I will use Afrin as a last resort only at bedtime and only the tiniest of amount.
Plus any Flonase use is also only when absolutely needed.
I have had to deal with Afrin rebound many years ago (and more than one time) and I don't want to get in that boat again.
So I am ultra cautious when I use the Afrin.
The Flonase might be used more during the day of the congestion is too uncomfortable during the day.
I also will use saline solutions (like Simply Saline) frequently during a cold and even now I will use it to help with the drying effect of the cpap air. I don't need as much though compared to what I would use if I had a cold.

I don't get seasonal allergy problems very often. It's very rare that I get those sorts of congestion/nasal issues.
When I do I start off with the saline spray frequently and maybe a bit of Flonase and as a last resort Afrin but only at bedtime.
I can't sleep well at all if I can't breathe through my nose. I know a lot of people just end up sleeping and mouth breathing but for me it's more of a "get no sleep" result. I just can't get comfortable enough to sleep if I can't easily breathe through my nose. I was this way long before the OSA diagnosis and cpap.

I have been on cpap for over 8 years now and I have yet to have nasal congestion so bad that I couldn't use my nasal pillow mask. If I have a bad cold..I treat the cold symptoms whatever they are and I use the Saline and Flonase and a tiny bit of Afrin to get just a little air being able to move. Once I can breathe the cpap humidified air through the pillows my nose actually improves if I have a cold...I often wake up breathing better than when I went to bed.
