CPAP pillow?

Post by KTinTexas » Fri Aug 18, 2017 9:06 pm

Anyone tried the special CPAP pillows? I've gone back to the Dreamwear that I really like but I'm convinced it comes off when I turn on my side. I think this is happening while I'm asleep. When I try to turn on my side when I'm awake, the mask starts leaking. With other masks, I'm taking them off in my sleep. I think this one is coming off by itself. I wonder if the special CPAP mask with the cutout sides would take care of the problem.

I'm a DreamWear user (recently switched from the regular DreamWear to the new version with gel pillows). I've also used the special cpap pillow with the cut-away corners (back when I was using a regular nasal mask).

With the regular nasal mask (Mirage FX), the cut-away corners of the cpap pillow really helped - they allowed the mask to stay in place on my face and not be pushed aside. But with the DreamWear I don't need the cpap pillow.

The DreamWear headgear stays in place much better when you fasten the back strap to your hair so it doesn't slide up. I used to use a hair clip to fasten it to my hair. Now that my hair is longer, I can just pull the hair out over the top of the strap and it stays in place nicely. It also helps to have plenty of hose available so it doesn't tug on the top of the headgear as you turn from side to side.

As for turning on my side, I found with the regular DreamWear mask I needed to just use one finger to hold the mask in place as I rolled over. Once I settled my head on the pillow, I could let go. Now that I've switched to the gel pillow version, it stays in place on its own when I turn to my side.

Good luck!

Great suggestions. I still have my return insurance so I'll try the Dreamwear with the gel pillows. As for that CPAP pillow, it looks just like a regular memory foam pillow in the picture. How does it help with rolling on your side?

It is buckwheat.. so you just adjust the pillow to push the material around so your head rests on it properly. You can even sleep on your side and just move the material below the mask.. so the mask is not touching the pillow... that is what I do when I use the cpap pillow. It did not take long to get used to it.. but my first impression is that sleeping on a brick would not be comfortable. I dont use it all the time though ,,, but it is on my bed if I feel the need to use it. I should use it more.. the sleep quality is very good with it. It is just when you start to sleep with it, it doesnt exactly feel comfortable like a soft down pillow.

I have used the buckwheat and the memory foam (Contour pillow). I prefer the memory foam over the buckwheat because for me, the buckwheat is too hard. But that's me. I am on my second Contour pillow and happy as a pig in the poke.

I do have a question. How is the Dreamwear with gel pillows any different or better than a regular nasal pillow mask?

It's the only nasal pillow mask I've used, so I can only comment to the obvious difference, which is the hose being connected at the top of your head instead of in front of your face. Love that feature!
