My CPAP machine starts out fine with the air flow,but as soon as I drift off to sleep ,the air flow slowly decreases to nothing. I awake suffocating.

I strongly suggest disabling the auto-off feature. I don't know if it can be disabled separately from auto-on on your machine.

I really don't find this feature overly useful anyhow.

It would help to know what machine you are using and at what pressures.
