Mask Taken Off Mid Sleep, Help Keeping On
Mask Taken Off Mid Sleep, Help Keeping On
How can I keep my mask on mid sleep???? My subconscious mind has been taking it off mid sleep. Need a reliable way to treat the sleep apnea. (CPAP, dental appliance, provent, handcuffing my hands not to take off mask, anything!)

Try taping the straps to your face so that when you try to remove the mask you'll wake up enough to be aware...

Thanks for the reply, Julie. Anything else I can do besides tape? Already tried that, mixed results.

staple it to your cheeks? or if that's too painful, maybe try a hairband. look in the women's hair care section at your local drugstore.Kabuto wrote:Thanks for the reply, Julie. Anything else I can do besides tape? Already tried that, mixed results.

It's amazing what intricate activities we can manage to pull off in a sleepy stupor. Making it difficult to accomplish is not the goal. Discomfort/pain upon removal is the goal. Maybe a stronger tape will give you better results - anything short of skin damaging.Kabuto wrote:Thanks for the reply, Julie. Anything else I can do besides tape? Already tried that, mixed results.

When I was having trouble with this, I found that adding a chin strap helped. It complicated the removal mid-sleep and seemed to stop me from doing it.
Also, working to get a mask/headgear that is truly comfortable might help, so the desire to remove it is lessened. Is there such a thing as a comfortable mask? I have not found such but others seem to have.
Good luck!

Re: Mask Taken Off Mid Sleep, Help Keeping On
I struggled with this for a few months when I first started cpap therapy. Went as far as taping the headgear and wearing mittens to bed and I would still wake up with my mask laying next to me in bed.
One thing I found that really solved it for me was to buy a thin balaclava (helmet liner) and wear it over my headgear. It really makes it impossible to just rip your mask off and also helps keep it in place.
Good luck to you, stick with it! =)

Where do I find the thin balaclava (helmet liner)? How can I get this?
Also, I've tried bobby pins in my hair last night, attached to the mask- seems to actually be sort of working. Thoughts on that?

https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/ni ... yId=225742 Shop around a bit. You might find a cheaper one. I would go with thin, breathable, unless you are in Antarctica. https://www.google.com/search?q=footbal ... e&ie=UTF-8Kabuto wrote:Where do I find the thin balaclava (helmet liner)? I believe this link shows the type of balaclava that was suggested to the OP:
https://www.amazon.ca/Oxford-OF465-Reve ... B000R57X7G
Note how it can cover the mask/headgear area of the face and head.
