CPAP vanity - undereye bags
CPAP vanity - undereye bags
I've used 2 masks in my short CPAP history - Dreamwear and Amara View. The minor strap marks disappear within an hour or two in the morning, but the carry-on-sized bags under my eyes are becoming a permanent feature of my face. Adjusting strap tension makes no difference, other than to cause leaking if they get too loose. Has anyone used a mask that does NOT cause eye bags? I need a full-face mask due to mouth leak. I'm tired of looking like I've been on a drinking binge.

OK, you're going to think I'm being a wiseass, but I am serious. The best thing I have found to get rid of bags under the eyes is..Preparation H. Seriously, I just rub in a little dab daily, and the bags are gone. Consider, it is designed to SHRINK, hemorrhoidal tissue, so why not bags under the eyes?Esme L. wrote:I've used 2 masks in my short CPAP history - Dreamwear and Amara View. A VERY old trick of make-up artists.

Full face masks and straps go hand in hand. Can't have a full face mask without straps and unfortunately some of us get the fluid retention baggy eyes from the least little bit of impaired circulation.
What I did to help mine (and it's still not perfect) is add Padacheek strap covers. It helps diffuse the pressure a little bit so less chance of the fluid pooling so much.
I still get a little bit...especially if I lay on my right side too much. Always the right side though.
And that's with a nasal pillow mask with minimal straps.
The straps impede the circulation a bit...even if they aren't too tight (which people do tend to over tighten) and that's how come we get those ugly bags under the eyes. Have to try to reduce the chance of the straps impeding the circulation...hence the strap covers to help diffuse the pressure a little.
The Prep H trick...I tried it and couldn't really tell it helped much.
If you want to look at strap covers (you can also make your own out of some soft fleece) check out

I found they help me a lot...not perfect all the time but a lot less bags under the eyes than I would get without them.

I agree about padacheek. My wife and I both use padacheek strap pads on our masks, and do not have strap marks in the morning,

Re: CPAP vanity - undereye bags
Thanks for all the replies. I did get a mask liner from padacheek but thought the fleece strap covers might be too uncomfortable in the warm weather. I may try making a couple. And yes - the hemorrhoid cream is an oft-suggested remedy for undereye swelling but unfortunately it is not effective. Nor is witch hazel, cucumber slices, baking soda paste or diuretics. Not for me anyway.
Re: CPAP vanity - undereye bags
Surprisingly the Padacheek strap covers aren't really all that hot during the summer. I have always used them year round.
Of course...YMMV but for me I haven't really had that much of a problem with the straps feeling uncomfortably warm.
