CPAP travel power for camping and airline trips: Medicare?

Post by rfsmith84 » Mon Aug 14, 2017 10:28 am

Hey,

Lotsa questions in one post. Feel free to answer any or all portions.

I have a Resmed airsense 10 for home use and a Puritan bennett Goodknight 620G that I use for travel. I have been using an Everstart Battery box as a camping power supply. (Yes, it is big and Heavy)

I am looking at the Freedom travel battery kit, and the Resmed battery pack. (The freedom kit seems smaller and more travel friendly, including being airline acceptable.)

These are the questions:
1. Can someone recommend or comment on the 2 battery packs above?
2. Alternate battery packs that are light and airline friendly?
3. Can any of this equipment be finessed thru Medicare?

Thanks in advance,

Rog Smith

I can only answer the Medicare question: NO.
Medicare will not cover anything "optional", including glasses, hearing aids, or dental care.
Since those things are not covered, you fill in the blank.

Medicare doesn't cover batteries for Cpap with some exceptions. The only way you could get an exception is if your doctor appealed and personal camping and travel when you aren't otherwise handicapped is probably not going to swing it. Someone with more severe handicaps like Goofproof probably would be able to swing it as he cannot safely sleep AT ALL if there were a power out. The key to some of this stuff is to look at the HCPCS Codes. If there isn't one, it's probably an exception item.
