Dreamstation Go - how to eliminate hose noise

Post by levman » Sat Aug 12, 2017 7:44 am

I recently purchased a Dreamstation Go, and while I am mostly happy with the device, I'd hear some loud hose noise when inhaling which was annoying. I've figured out how to eliminate it and thought I'd share for other owners or people considering the device.

The key is that you've got to position both the device and the hose Such that they are lower than your head; at least that has been my experience. When traveling, I tend to hang the hose from a bed post or over the arm of a wall mounted lamp, or over the top of the pillow if I'm facing away from the CPAP; all of these create the noise on inhalation. If I let the hose hang over the side of the bed when facing the CPAP, or drape it across my chest when facing away, the noise on inhalation goes away. Now that I've figured this out, I am 100% happy with the device.

The effect is most noticeable when the device is ramped up to Full pressure.

Good luck - I just discovered this two nights ago (I'm on the road now) after picking up a tip on another forum, did a little experimenting and have been very happy with the result. Lowering the CPAP isn't enough - the hose position is what finally made the difference. I wish I understood why this works ...

Also, I meant to mention this earlier - my mask is an Airfit P10. I wouldn't be surprised if this is somewhat mask-dependent.

Have you tried switching to a different size long hose?

I tried a 22mm hose on my Dreamstation Go and didn't notice any difference. This was before I discovered this latest trick though, so I don't know if positioning the device and hose lower than your head solves the noise problem with a 22mm hose but I assume it would. But I can't think of any reason to use a 22mm hose with the Dreamstation Go, the new 12mm Micro Flex tubing it comes with is much more comfortable to sleep with and it takes up less space in my suitcase.
