Smelling onion smell on CPAP after eating onions

First post and maybe I am unusual: After chopping or eating raw onion I smell the onion as I use CPAP. Unlike most people who merely have temporary onion breath after eating onion garnish, I actually perspire onion for days, even after a shower. If an onion garnish did not help me prevent weight gain, as I use onion with lemon juice to replace mayo with tuna, the obvious would be stop onions. Will it help if I wait for tuna until it is time to change tubing? Other ideas?

I use the small nasal mask, as the nasal pillow leave me with sore nose, possibly due to nose surgery removing normal amounts of untouched cartilage.

Have some parsley.
Parsley is the traditional herb used to tone down garlic--it should work with onion, too.

dont use onions

really gaining weight from mayo? how much do you use.

eat less
exercise more

dont eat tuna. eat something else.

What a crappy answer! How will your answers help him not smell onions when he masks up? The OP had the only obvious answer himself.

Assuming you problem is transfer of onion juice to your hands during preparation I have a couple of thoughts on this. I have seen in stores (probably kitchen stores) a stainless steel stone, maybe 3 or 4 inches sold for the purpose of removing cooking odors from your hands. You rub the stone with your hands and the odor is removed by the stainless steel. Does it work ..... no idea .... maybe. I often wonder if one can just rub the sink and save money.

Second thought, drug stores, Costco, etc sell those thin latex or non-latex gloves. Use them when handling the onions or handling your CPAP equipment to prevent transfer.

Backing soda is good at removing odors. Wash your hands with it, even take some in the shower use it after you soap up.

If you are getting onion feedback from your breath , parsley as mentioned earlier. Could you use less onion in your dressing?

I have thin skin, so strong smelling food comes out of my skin also.

Rubbing/stroking any stainless steel utensil while washing your hands really does work.
No need to buy a fancy egg, or whatever--use the bowl of a large SS spoon.
I like to use a mini stainless steel olive boat.
It only holds three olives, which is never enough for me.

I suggest a low-carb diet (worked for me).

Eliminate, pasta, potatoes, bread, rice, crackers, and all manner of cakes, pies, and pastries. Eat a limited amount of fresh fruit.

Onions are on this diet (nut not for you).

This leaves most vegetables, tomatoes, nuts (including), meats, fish, cheese, and eggs. Cook with Olive Oil, Peanut Oil, or Butter. Eat peas, lentils, and hummus in moderation.

Some of the things on this diet sound very fattening (especially meat, butter, and cheese), but you will lose weight!

I concur! I was never very much overweight, but over the last 10 years had put on about 10 lbs. I went to low (less than 50 grams) carb diet and lost it all. I'm now nearing the weight I was at age 25.

I experience the same symptoms with onions. They go on for days, seemingly exuding from every pore. I don't do CPAP (yet), but gosh, another hazard to pay attention to.

The onion symptoms I had were not just from chopping onions. I got them even if someone else did the cooking. Is that true for you, too? If so, your solution might have to address more than the chopping aspect.

I even tried using frozen onions so I wouldn't have to handle them.

I've had to give up onions altogether.

Maybe tartar sauce could substitute for mayonnaise? A salad dressing? Powdered onion? One of those fun flavor-y "salts" you can get for perking food up?
