Hi, it might be just an anomaly, but thought I'd throw it out there. Since starting cpap about 2 weeks ago, my ahi has ranged from 1.5-7. I'd like it better but have accepted that at least it's an improvement over my sleep study ahi of 20.
So, yesterday we started our vacation and my first night ahi was 17. I had many obstructive events when usually I have more hypopneas. I'm not worried about it (I feel exactly the same as every other morning), but am curious whether any of the following factors have given you an out-of-range night like I had:
*air travel (but didn't change time zones)
*previous night only slept 4 1/2 hours
*different bed/pillows (note:it's very comfortable)
I did get a neck kink 2 days ago and am sleeping more on my back because it helps, and maybe that's why.
Like I said, it may just be one of those things, but curious how others have responded to travel or sleeping after a very short night of sleep.
Thank you.

It's difficult to diagnose without seeing data. What is your pressure setting? Are you using the ramp feature? Do you notice substantial leaks?

Re: Oddly high ahi
Sleeping position can make a substantial difference in pressure needs for some people.
So the back sleeping could be a factor. You may just be on your back more where you might need more pressure.
Same thing holds true for REM stage sleep.
Different bed pillows can also affect the alignment of the neck which in turn affects the alignment of the airway so it's possible that a different bed pillow puts the neck in a position that causes the airway to narrow.
It's also possible to have 1 or 2 or 3 of these various factors...sleep position, REM sleep stage, neck position affecting airway position.

My other question would be regarding the filters. It's been 12 nights, and I haven't cleaned or replaced either of the filters. My DME didn't give me any extra disposable filters and they were supposed to have been shipped to my house before I went on vacation. Alas, that didn't happen. So I'm stuck with that one for the next 6 days. Could not changing filters impact my ahi?

I wouldn't expect so, unless you have other breathing problems that are impacted in the vacation area climate. For example, my area has been under an air quality advisory due to wildfire smoke for the past week, and I have not noticed any significant change in my ahi during that time--still hovering between 1 - 3. I am cleaning the washable filter more frequently and I have replaced the fine filter once (it was due for a change anyway), but that is my preference, even as the filters keep out fine particulate matter smaller than what is of concern here currently.Rainmom17 wrote:Could not changing filters impact my ahi?

You must live near me! We have had the very smoky air for about 3 nights. Am looking forward to getting my new filters! But I can at least clean one of them in the meantime.
