New Year, New Doctor, New Mask, New frustrations

Post by kbh209 » Fri Jul 14, 2017 4:05 pm

After going to American Med, which is here in Stockton, I found out from the office staff that Dr. Kass MD recommended that I use the Amara Gel full-face mask. The woman in American Med told me how to stop the leak in the mask, which was to hold my head a certain way, which I'm pretty sure is going to lead me to seeing my Rheumatologist a lot more. Hold my head 90 degrees backwards. I still had a leak in the mask, in fact my CPAP machine gave me the angry red face as a grade to the air that was leaking. So after that happened, I went back to the mask that is currently on my profile.

Further more, I was given a Roscoe Medical brand Easy Flex CPAP Tubing and it kept falling off the original mask (in profile).

My question for the board: Who has the Amara gel Full-Face mask? Being that I have both a small and petite to try, what tips can you give to properly stop the air from leaking out? https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-ama ... icone.html

My second question for the board: Should I request an actual Resmed or Philips Resperonics CPAP tube from American Med, if I continue to have problems? What if they only carry the Roscoe brand?

You are dealing with an idiot. (But, you already knew that.)

To reduce unintentional mask leak -

- Make sure the mask is fitted properly. (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- Make sure the headgear is adjusted properly (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- If you use a low ramp pressure or a low minimum pressure, you should fit and adjust your mask at the higher pressures it is operating at for most of the night. You would temporarily change the machine pressure settings while you do the fitting and adjusting. It's best to do this well before bedtime before you are tired and ready for sleep. Don't forget to change your settings back to the ones you prefer.

- Make sure to use good hose management - the hose should not pull on the mask. Notice how your hose is positioned between machine and mask. It should be positioned to minimize any pull on the mask. Hose management is an individual practice. How it is done depends on the mask, the position of the machine, your sleeping position and other factors specific to the individual.

- If you still have problems, learn from the forum what mask liners are available.

- If your mask still has excessive leak, try other masks. Many people report trying several masks before they find one that works well for them.

Note: Links to just some of the mask manufacturers' instructional videos can be found on the forum host's website - https://www.cpap.com/cpap-masks.php and https://www.youtube.com/

ChicagoGranny thanks for getting me in the right direction, YouTube. So I figured out the issue, the woman at American Med forgot to educate me on the Forehead adjuster button. My machine gave me the "Good Seal" approval after setting the device to the smallest forehead (petite size mask).

Just a head's up for anyone reading, Dr. Ronald Kass, MD is a wonderful OSA specialist. Being that he's also been a pulumonologist, he has experience with asthmatics and COPD and what can be done to make the CPAP/BIPAP therapy work well. Very patient and explains things so you understand.

Okay last night I did the airleak test with said mask, got the green light (green smiley) and all was well. I woke up this morning and seen that I got the red smiley ...meaning I had an airleak. Going to shave tonight and hope for the best. I like this new mask but a little frustrating that I'm not getting a seal that sticks through the night.

So after a couple nights of frustration, I'm stickting with the Amara View. I gave the Amara full-faced w/ gel a chance but for some reason it just doesn't fit the bone structure of my face.

About a week and a half ago I went and exchanged my unopened Amara Gel Full-Face masks for Amara View masks. Yet, something is off about the Amara View mask packaging.

The branded packaging is from my former medical equipment supply, Lincare. The non-branded packaging is from American Med here in Stockton, California.

My question is: Does Philips Resperonics provide non-branding packaging or is this a generic off brand?

When I was using a PR mask, all of the cushions were packaged blister packs with the PR name on them.
