Intense Jaw Pain

Post by cavaland » Thu Jul 20, 2017 1:10 pm

I've been using the P10 Nasal Pillow for 4 months and noticed that I clench my teeth terribly during this time, to the point that it is sometimes difficult to unlock my jaw. This last week I've had really intense jaw pain that made it impossible to sleep so I have not been using the cpap. Does anyone know if this is common with the nasal pillows? Would a different mask be better? I cannot bear the thought of using mouth guards plus nasal pillows, honestly it's torture to try to go to sleep. Also while using the cpap I am awake hours out of the night, sometimes with slight panic and hyperventilating. These past few nights without the cpap has been wonderful, not waking up (although I know, I'm really not sleeping but oh joy). Any suggestions appreciated.

Go to the ER NOW! Jaw pain is a classic symptom of heart attack (pr pending one) and you MUST get checked out. Don't assume it's anything to do witth Cpap.

I'm aware that jaw pain can be a symptom of a heart attack and believe me it crossed my mind to go the ER but I'm more prone to believe it is related to the teeth clenching. I'm not afraid of the cpap and I've had some nights of wonderful sleep but I do wake up almost consistently after a couple of hours all through the night so perhaps the pressure is set to high. I may have to try another mask, hate to because the pillows are so unobtrusive and easy to use. Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate the help.

In light of what you've written here, as well as the fact that you say you don't want to add a TMJ night guard to your sleeping situation, I think you should try a different mask.

If the teeth clenching is a new problem, then I would assume that you are subconsciously worried about the need to keep your mouth shut while using a nasal pillows mask. You might have better luck with using a full face mask that covers both your mouth and your nose. When you open your mouth in a full face mask, you don't loose therapeutic pressure. Knowing that may allow you to relax enough to not clench the teeth.
