Air getting into eyes
Air getting into eyes
I have been using a CPAP machine since 2001. A few months ago I started getting air coming up into my eyes via the tear ducts. This is quite uncomfortable and leaves my eyes feeling quite gritty in the morning. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem, and if so what can be done about it?
Re: Air getting into eyes
Sounds like a mask fit problem....have you changed masks lately? You could try a mask liner for your existing mask. See padacheek.com.

Re: Air getting into eyes
If you are sure the tear ducts are involved then you should be seeing an eye doctor.
Maybe lacrimal duct plugs would help.
Which mask are you using and at what pressure? There are ducts from up inside the nasal cavity that go to the eyes and normally they should not be open and allow air to get up to the eyes but sometimes they do and plugs might be an option.

Plus 100 on seeing an eye doctor.
Self-diagnosis and treatment is almost always a bad idea if your eyes are involved.

After eliminating other issues with your doctor. You could try swimming goggles to seal your eye sockets off from the world. It's cheaper than surgery and reversible. You can take them off every morning.
Re: Air getting into eyes
I would look at the possibility of a leaky mask.
It is very common for air to blow into my eyes when I get in bed. I make some minor adjustments to the mask and my hose placement and all is well.
It is amazing how the hose can pull on the mask just enough to cause minor leaks or even small hurricanes that blow into the eyes.

Re: Air getting into eyes
If air is coming up through the puncta, swim goggles will not help.
Otherwise swim goggles are a good idea.
Also the dry eye night goggles like from the dry eye shop.
