Thanks for the post! My humidifier just stopped working so I opened it up and it was exactly like your posted pictures. Took about 5 min to repair, thanks again.

Another satisfied customer <clapping> (mostly directed to the helpful CPAPtalk techies, not so much towards Phillips Respironcs )

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I found that the only force pressing the connector contact to the tang from the pcb is the tight fit of the plastic housing (the contact only presses on one side of the tang). With the plastic melted like that, the contact force relaxes, accelerating the self-destruction.

I opted to clean the tang with a file but leave the connector intact. By bending the tangs down towards the board I've got positive contact pressure now as the tangs clamp the connector against the board.
I applied dielectric grease to the connection and the humidifier continues to work a couple of months later.
I may have to solder things eventually but decided to give this a try for now.
The plastic does nothing to make the connection, except hold the wires insulated and lined up. What makes the connection is the end on the wire (female) is split and smaller than the pin. Pushing it on makes a forced fit, thats what make the connection work. If the pin isn't incerted straight on the female pin spreads, resulting in a poor connection and failure.

A proper connection has close to zero ohms resistance, resulting in no heat buildup in the wiring. Jim

Wow! I had the exact same problem! I was thinking about the exact same fix also! And it works again! Thanks.

However, it is a little scary this burnt connection issue. I remember waking up in the middle of the night to this odd smell coming from my CPAP. At the time, I thought maybe a bug was sucked in or something, but after I took it apart and saw the burnt plastic connector, I'm a little freaked out that I was breathing that in while it happened. Not good. There should be a recall on this if you ask me. Your picture looked just like mine.

Perfect! When I opened mine up... the same exact situation. the burn was identical, which was cool and freaky at the same time. Thank you for the great post!!

I read something the other day about the *previous* generation of respironics machines having problems with humidifier heater connections burning....

I think their engineers need to be slapped with a basic electrics handbook, repeatedly.

I wonder if the new dreamstations are as poorly engineered.

I think almost EVERY generation of Respironics machines have had some types of "issues" or recalls with some of their humidifier units or tanks. There was an old recall of some of the Legacy models, the M Series had leaking problems and went through several re-design configurations and then there were the System One problems.

Since I don't use heated humidity, I've never worried about it. But, the stories and links are out there.

Here's another one.

I'm a really happy camper I found this. I was about to buy a replacement humidifier. Turned out to be an easy repair.

I hope others find this when faced with a Respironics RemStar CPAP that has a blinking or flashing humidifier light.

I'd suggest a regular reseating of the connector, to scrape off the oxidation that builds up, causing increased resistance and increasing heat.

Thanks so much for this info. I recently open up my machine and saw the exact burnt connector. I was going to send it off to a repair shop but I'm willing to give this fix a try. I ended up cutting off the previous connector, tinning the wire and corresponding connector pin, soldering the wire and protecting the joint with some heat shrink tubing I had on hand. The result? Works like a champ! I just saved several $$ plus the inconvenience of going more nights without this machine.
Looking forward to get a great night's sleep without snoring and sending my better half off to the spare room. :)

Almost looks like a fusible link in there.
Worst thing Chrysler ever did.
Imagine being 400 miles from home and a fusible link goes out on your motorhome.
Before the age of smartphones.
Dealer wanted a pile of moolah to install one--but refused to sell just the part.
Stinkers! We found a parts store, limped there, and the bullfrog did his thing in their parking lot.
Needless to say, we NEVER owned another Chrysler product, and sold the Dodge class C.

I think that's the heat shrink ready to go on, but that's just a guess.
