You need a 4 year old to do it, the 17 year old is too old. CAPTCHA sucks Keep trying until it gets to pictures that can be seen correctly, even sometimes it gives up and works. Jim

In other news - this post was deleted from the thread titled "A Certain Poster". I suspect a certain poster managed to get their alter ego ID enuff posts to get the Spam Delete Button so they can delete things they don't agree with.

I see Johnny is totally misunderstood so allow me to make clear why I ever posted in this thread to begin with.
I am not and do not condone offensive comments nor am I defending anything that xxyzx said, says, or thinks.
I was merely trying to point out that two wrongs don't make a right.

Said another way what you all are doing is not any better than what you are accusing him of doing.

I am resolutely certain that when johnnygoodman said ...

To say that is totally off the mark. I don't know how you or anyone can come away with that. IMO to say or even think that is a serious misunderstanding but posting info like will surely taint others.

I suggest you contact Johnny directly if that is what you think.
Behavior like this is why people leave and/or don't bother to post, they are afraid this will happen to them.

Have you folks not heard of the "Golden Rule"?
Johnny should have said "Welcome to CpapTalk this is where 'Karma' begins. Put a shine on yours."

How is what this thread about any different than what you are talking about? Don't forget you a new here too and they will turn on you at any time.

But as to your interpretation - I suggest you consult the author to get a clear understanding of his intention and meaning.
1) If my behavior is like that of the poster in question I would fully expect to be "turned on at any time"
2) I have read Johnnie views on censorship. I don't agree, he believes in allowing all forms of verbal expression, I believe there should be limits. I understand Johnnies concerns about who is watching over the censors, which can lead to the current situation on college campuses wherein only speech adhering to the accepted dogma is encouraged and all outside of that is forbidden and shouted down. I am not for that level of restriction, but name calling, denigration of mentally disabled and political name calling are not acceptable behavior in my view. As I said, that's my view, and God Forbid, sometimes I fail to meet my expectations ( written in expectation to the inevitable pointing out on my hypocrisy), but that's the price of being human.

But the rules are set by them that pays the bills on a publically accessible privately owned forum, so I will live by them and occasionally feel free to express my view on those rules, as was clearly intended.
My thoughts exactly. It's disconcerting that any old thing is okay I think it leads to people leaving, since there is no control. I've never heard of a site having no Terms of Service. Seems odd. There is so much talent, wisdom and experience here by quite a few posters. Maybe, it could be channeled in a different way. I'll keep my eyes open.
While I have the time I would like to point out that by posting on this forum you have already accepted the "User Agreement" that you disagree with.

Maybe Jim and the others would like it if instead of removing the Spam Button for inappropriate use the guilty username was removed and all usernames associated with that IP. Just a thought.

If Jim was paying $$$ for this Sandbox we all post in he would make a few changes or worse, but thankfully for many, he doesn't, and is willing to play by the rules. Johnny, must a heck of a man, to put up with the headache, and cost. Jim

I'd be happy if an option to just hide any posts from users who have posted under multiple names was available. For example, judeyo posted in a Resmed Mini forum as "First post". but that's only true if you ignore the 25-30 other names under which the same user has posted. I don't trust anything that any of the posters who have a bunch of different IDs post.

The "multiple name" thing isn't really true. It's an artifact of how the forum software works. For example, I'm unregistered. I'm about to post this message as "RandomGuest". When I do so, the forum will show about 30 different users it thinks is me.

But none of them are! I've never used those names.

I don't think it's IP addresses that are used to produce that list of names. My ISP gives me a dynamic IP address but it rarely changes. And it's not cookies, since I frequently delete mine. No, the algorithm used is primitive and unreliable.

Believe it or not.

You can do that today, just shell out the $$$, start your own site, pay the bills, then you can make the rules whatever you want to. Or you could just read the posts on this forum, and learn about the names listed under some posts and why
they show up like that and what it means. There is even a meager search function. Jim

What I think about your forum

Post by GrandpapaPatrick » Sat Jul 08, 2017 5:41 pm

Dear SuperSleeper,

Perhaps you should send out an email to all members of your forum saying
that they are there to help each other and not to attack each other. Everyone
who was so rude to me should be thoroughly ashamed.

As a newcomer there all I found were mean people who had no sympathy
for my situation. They were very rude and demeaning in their words and tone.
I was attacked, mocked, ridiculed and made to feel that it was my fault that I was
sick. One actually said that I should, "man up." They mocked my "mental abilities."

They mocked my memory and said in all caps that I, "..SHOULD SEE A DOCTOR!"
They said that my ideas were, "stupid" and they acted like they had "they never make
mistakes like I do." When I said that they were not being very sympathetic they
said that they were not supportive of "stupid ideas." And that it was my fault that
I was treated this way and that I was "easily offended."

I can't believe that a newcomer to your site would be treated so shabbily. You
would think that people would have better things to do with their time than
to hang around forums just to attack others who are sick.

You can keep your support group and I will pray for them but I can't have anything
to do with a group of people like that.

I posted only one thread and because I was treated so very badly I will never
go on your forum again.

Good luck putting up with those kind of people. You will need it.

Sincerely,

GrandpaPatrick

GrandpapaPatrick,

I was horrified at the way you were treated. Unfortunately, as you found out, there are a bunch of forum bullies on this list who enjoy attacking newcomers when they don't like what was posted. Sadly, since this is an unmoderated forum, that isn't going to change.

I tried to join the forum on July 7 and got an email saying "Your account is currently inactive, the administrator of the board will need to activate it before you can log in. You will receive another e-mail when this has occurred." Haven't heard anything since then. Can someone help me?

Bummer... First post in quite some time, but sorry to hear there are the typical spammers hitting here...
I'm trying to get a friend who is newly diagnosed to come aboard, so I'll have to tell her to be careful.
As an update -- I'm doing well. I've been compliant 10 years now, so like after my first 6 months, I can't imagine sleeping without my little buddy.
Still have much thanks to all the folks here at cpaptalk.com for the great help in the beginning... Like my neurologist said at the time, "There are some really smart people at that site." She was right then, and I'm sure it is the same today.
cheers
