Question for Dreamwear mask users
Question for Dreamwear mask users
Currently I use a P10 nasal pillow mask. When the air tube is close to my temples or ears I hear a lot of tube noise, I then wake up and move it to keep it quiet. With the split tube of the Dreamwear mask running between the temple and ear is this airflow noise constant?
Re: Question for Dreamwear mask users
Hi,
I use the Dreamwear mask you are referring to. I don't know that it sounds as loud as a tube does because the air is diffused down both sides of the head frame, out the top and through a hole in the nasal cushion, so it's less concentrated in one area. Also, the sides of the head frame are not directly near the ears, but run more along the cheeks. I'm a light sleeper and I don't find the sound a problem at all. However, I will tell you one drawback to the Dreamwear mask, because of the way the frame runs down the side of the face, it makes side sleeping a challenge. I find that, if I roll onto my side during sleep, I almost always wake up because the frame gets moved by turning into the pillow and it will lose the seal on the nose and I have to readjust. With that said, I still find it to be the most comfortable mask I've tried. I was never successful with a full face mask, nasal mask, or nasal pillows. I had just about given up until the Dreamwear hit the market and my ENT convinced me to try just one more mask. Have you asked your doctor if they have a mask you can try out? My ENT has a bunch of different masks that they sanitize and loan out. I tried the Dreamwear out for a week or two before committing. I took to it like a duck to water the very first night, so it's been amazing for me. I will try to really pay attention tonight to the sound and I'll put the tube by my ear to compare and post again tomorrow for you. Hope this helps a little

Re: Question for Dreamwear mask users
I use the Dreamwear mask and love it. The only noise I'm aware of is when I first put the mask on, I can hear my own breathing. Once I begin to relax and my breathing settled down, I don't hear anything. As GoldiJ said, it can lose seal when you roll over. I find that simply putting a slight pressure on the cushion with one finger as I lay my head down on the pillow takes care of that.

Re: Question for Dreamwear mask users
@rohdej, I tried to really pay attention last night with my mask. I don't hear anything other than the gentle ebb and flow you hear with any CPAP machine. I really don't hear anything in my tube either, even when I put it to my ear. I did notice once that I had a little extra noise when I went from my large gauge tube to the smaller tube that was sent as a replacement, but I made an adjustment on my machine by going to the menu and selecting the smaller size tubing option and it seemed to resolve. Perhaps you could double check those settings to make sure that isn't contributing to the noise in your tube? Otherwise, all I can say is I love the Dreamwear mask, and I don't find any noise to it at all. I also love how it fits and that I don't feel like I have something flaring out my nostrils all the time. It truly is so comfortable and easy to wear. I don't think I would have ever been able to be compliant with my CPAP without it!
Re: Question for Dreamwear mask users
Thank you all for answering. I'm not quite ready to jump from the P10 but the dreamwear is on my list of maybe masks.
Re: Question for Dreamwear mask users
I am currently trialing the DreamWear Gel Pillow version....tried the cushion version when it first came out.
I normally use the P10.
I was going to comment but I didn't know if my experience would help you much because I don't hear the P10 at all.
Likewise I don't hear anything with the DreamWear either...not the original cushion or the gel pillows I am now using.
Seems like people's "hearing" can be different and what I hear or don't hear doesn't necessarily mean that you will hear or not hear the same as I do.
If you do end up getting the original cushion version of the DreamWear did you know you can also use the gel pillows on the same headgear and frame?
Or you can get the gel pillow version and buy a cushion separately. Headgear and frame are interchangeable between pillows and cushion.

Re: Question for Dreamwear mask users
I use the Dreamwear mask and it sounds rather Darth Vaderish. I play Ocean Sounds on my Echo to drown out my tinnitus and it seems to work just as well with the Dreamwear mask. If you are like my Mom and easily woken up, it may not be in your best interests. You might want to see if you can get a used mask somewhere or get one off of Craigslist to try it before you buy one for yourself. I love it, but do find I need to change out the cushion every two months. This can get expensive for someone who doesn't have insurance coverage. YMMV on that as with all inserts, but it becomes leaky at just over 2 months for me and nothing I did resolved this. Rinsing, not washing, made no difference either.
