Dreamstation not storing data on SD card

Post by Surfbear » Tue May 23, 2017 7:16 pm

Hello everyone, I'm new to the group. Glad to be here.

I have not been able to get my Dreamstation Auto DSX500H11 machine to write data to my SD card.
I'm interested in having the data transferred to an SD card so I can use the SleepyHead
software to view and analyze data. My machine was brand new and I've had it for about 40 days.
To date, I have been unsuccessful at getting my machine to respond to an SD
card, and write the data to it.

I hear of others that have successfully transferred data from the cpap machines to their SD cards, then to a PC, and it's been an easy and simple process.
I have had members in forum groups advise me to format the card several different ways, make sure it's not locked etc, etc. Still
nothing happens.

Does anyone know if there are settings in the clinical mode of the machine that need to be
turned on in order for the data to transfer to the SD card? I've tried 2 other SD cards and they behave
the same way. The cards will all hold data transferred from my PC, so there doesn't appear to be anything
wrong with the cards.

(note: I am getting data thru a modem and wifi connection that works for a different software, but would
like the full capability of using the SD card and other software as well)

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

The card needs to be in the CPAP machine during the night in order to record your data. If you have properly downloaded the Sleepyhead Software to your computer, you should be able to transfer the data to Sleepyhead on your computer..

Thanks. That's what I assumed. The card has been in the machine for weeks at a time without recording data. I've made sure it was unlocked and able to be written to, but nothing is ever transferred to the card.

I appreciate your reply!

What do you see if you go into the SD card? Files? Folders, etc....is there a folder with the machine serial number name?
Is it still blank after being in the machine?
What are you using to determine if there is no data on the SD card?

If it simply won't write anything at all to any SD card...there is something wrong with the machine and it should be returned for warranty reasons.
Even if the card is left out of the machine the summary data and some files stored on the machine should get written to the SD card when it is finally inserted.

With Respironics machines a lot of data is stored on the machine and not as much detailed data gets lost if the SD card is not in the machine.
In fact the only graph that gets lost is the flow rate. All the others should still be there. It's not like the ResMed machines at all.

Hey Pugsy,

Thanks for your reply. Absolutely nothing shows on the SD card. I'm inserting it into my SD card slot on my PC and clicking on the
drive for it (E:)

You can see a snapshot here: https://www.screencast.com/t/aRRVUqAtTav

Yes, it is still showing no files after being in the machine for weeks. Also, I can write other files to the SD card(s) I've tried from my pc,
so I know the cards do work.

Hmmm....
I assume that you have confirmed with another SD card that you know has something on it that E Drive is working correctly?
That's the only other possible culprit...E drive acting up but if it reads other SD cards and not this SD card and you have tried other SD cards and the machine still doesn't put anything on it...then the fault is in the machine (and it does happen sometimes) not writing to the SD card.
Should be covered under warranty and needs to go back to wherever you got it.

Curious...when you insert the SD card in the DreamStation have you sat there to watch to see if the machine recognizes the SD card and says anything at all?
Any sort of acknowledgement from the DreamStation that a SD card just got inserted....there should be something show up.

So what I would do if it were me (and some you have already done).
Make sure the problem isn't the SD card which you have done by trying multiple cards.
Make sure the problems isn't the E drive not reading anything properly..
Call DME and tell them the machine is ailing and not writing to the SD card.

You've probably already checked this, but just in case. . . .
When you insert the SD card into the Dreamstation, do you make sure it is fully seated in the slot, i.e., push it all the way in until it pushes back at you a bit but not enough that it pops right out again?
Just a thought.

I have done this several times. Nothing happens at all when you insert a card into the Dreamstation machine. Thank you for your reply.

Hi Jean,
Yes, I make sure the card is fully seated in the slot.
Thank you for replying.

Sounds like your machine is broken. Needs to go back.

Normally when a SD card get inserted into the machine the machine will briefly read the card and do whatever it does....and usually some brief message will show up. Something like "reading data card" or something in along those lines.
If it does nothing and never even acknowledges the SD card then something in that area of the machine is not working properly.

Re: Dreamstation not storing data on SD card

So today I took my machine back to the distributor so they could test it and
see if there was a problem with the SD card reader.

There was indeed a problem with it. We used an identical machine to mine and
inserted the card into it. It recognized that a card had been inserted
into it immediately, and displayed a message on the cpap's screen that indicated
the SD card was inserted.

So, mystery solved!!! They ordered me a new machine and I should be receiving it
next week!

Thanks for all the suggestions and attempts to help!

Glad that mystery is solved. Doesn't surprise me because if the machine doesn't acknowledge the card it can't write to it.
Now of course SD cards could go bad and that might do the same thing but you already tried other cards and it still didn't work.
Pretty much eliminates everything but a broken machine. Maybe a loose wire or something in the part of the insides that deals with data writing or something. Who knows...it's a warrantied item and it is only right that you get a new machine.

Besides...it always makes me a bit leery of a machine in general when one part of it isn't functioning as expected. I can't help but wonder what else might not be quite right with it and would likely question everything even though the other stuff was fine.
