Re: AHI plummeted when wife left!
Hi Numnutz,
Before looking at any arcane or mysterious psychological processes, might I ask: do you and your wife sleep in one, unitary mattress? Or do you have twin divans? If it is one mattress, is it one of those 'the same all the way across' mattresses? Or is it one of those which has one kind of firmness in one half, and another kind of firmness in the other half?
What I'm suggesting is that the sagginess of the mattress could be a factor - and that the sagginess might increase when there is more than one person sleeping on it. Your head/ neck/ spine alignment (as well as the number of pillows you use) has a bearing on what happens to your throat when you sleep.
By way of a first investigation, you could get two other people - that is, two people other than yourself - to lie down on the mattress (with no duvet or blankets on it). And in stages - first one, and then the other. And see if you can see any change in alignment.
It may be that a new mattress is in order. If so, it'll probably be cheaper than a divorce.

Many new pappers discover that they need a new mattress, because before cpap,
our sleep was so lousy, we never had a chance to judge our mattress.
I would vote for a new mattress.
And please stop being so hard on yourself--I bet you are not really a numnutz.

3 month old, top of the line sleep number, with both of us comfortable on the same setting. Divorce would probably been cheaper than the mattress, but we needed one, and that's what she wanted, so that as usual is what we got. Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy! Hopefully an increase in her dope for restless leg syndrome will put me back in the quiet, restful sleep mode. Had to share this, no matter how mundane some of the pundits consider it. G'day all.rick blaine wrote:Hi Numnutz,

She's not around to put a pillow over your head, or choke you in your sleep! Don't keep plastic bags in the house. Another possibility is that something she wears (deodorant, hair spray) affects your breathing. My bro was allergic to his late wife. Since he was also allergic to the dogs and wasn't going to give them up either, he got shots. It took some years actually to figure out that it was the face cleanser she used before bed. When she stopped using it, the problem went away.

I hope his wife doesn't think of shots when she returns, they can be very effective. Jim

What kind of shots are you referring to:Goofproof wrote:I hope his wife doesn't think of shots when she returns, they can be very effective. Jim

From a Riffle?
From a small glass?
Or???

Re: AHI plummeted when wife left!
I have experienced decreased AHI too when my partner has been away, I assumed it was more about knowing I wouldn't be disturbing her with my vented air and general machine noises that allowed me to sleep better. Although it could have been a bit of both, who knows?Numnutz wrote:Have not mentally processed this fully, but after havng AHI of 5-14, after reducing it considerably on Pugsy's advice(thanks again) wife spending long weekend with her daughter and AHI dropped to 1.3 first nite and continues to stay down.
