You have that right. Stand up for yourself because no one else there is going to. They can't force you to spend your insurance money (your Medicare and your out of pocket copay) on a mask you don't want.
They might squawk but they can't force you to do anything you don't want to do.

Thank you very much,, I guess I'm upset because seems like as i get older my thoughts or feelings are ignored more and more, When I read the drs email stating medicare is pretty strict and this man says that mask is best for me,, When he never asked me a dang thing and when I tried to tell him,, He blew me off, Just ranting,, I need to wait and call a few companies and see what they say about my choices and I will choose one who is willing to work with me,

Medicare could care less which mask you use. Putting it off on Medicare is a bunch of hooey.

About 2 weeks ago Dr said she put in the order and was told I can pick my own mask, I am thinking since I haven't heard a thing yet and I do want to own 2 types of mask anyways to switch around,, I have my eye on the AirFit™ F20 Full Face CPAP Mask with Headgear. The strap across my forehead drive me nuts and this old mask it so hard to get in and out of for me,, If I have to take it off for a reason,, by the time I get it back on I am wide awake watching tv, and hoping I dont fall asleep without it, I want simple to put on and off and be able to watch tv while on because that's how I go to sleep, I do take meds that will make me fall asleep, I am trying to choose one to fit me and my lifestyle the best I can anyways.

Right now I think the mask I have is called Fisher & Paykel FlexiFit 431 full face mask and its a large which goes under my chin,, not sure if its supposed to,, anyways its like 10 yrs old but keeping in mind I just pulled everything out after about 9 yrs,, I never could get used to it but since being so sick I am doing my best to put it on every night and I do feel better but just leaves marks on my forehead too,, I want a nicer one, so My thoughts are I will buy one and then get a different one form Medicare order, Just haven't decided on that one yet, I wear a full face mask. I need a mask that I can put back on without totally waking up after going to bathroom, or do u just get used to it? this mask now,, there's now way,, I have to almost turn the light on to manage it, I am reading and watching videos on the different types of masks

Do you need a RX to buy a mask and head gear??

PS I am so sorry for my last rant,, I was feeling really bad and frustrated,

The F20 is easy to disconnect during the night. You just squeeze two tabs on the side of the elbow, and it pulls off the mask. You do not need to take the mask off when you get up. When you get back in bed, simply push the elbow back on and restart your machine. Another full face mask that is easy to disconnect at night is the Amara View. You squeeze two tabs on the side of the hose where it connects to the mask and it comes off. When you get back in bed, simply push the hose back onto the elbow and stat your machine. I have both masks and use one or the other every night. I originally chose the Amara View because it does not go over the nose, but comes up against the bottom of the nose. Prior to using the F20, I had problems getting masks that go over my nose to seal. I have a very narrow bridge on my nose, and most full face masks will not seal easily and cause leaks where air blows into my eyes unless I snug the mask up which in turn causes sores on my nose.

Do you know him, did you have the same sleep tech.?

"Nice" man was definitely not one of the adjectives I used to describe him. To be honest...too colorful for public venting. Image
I also got the bold face lie of "it's against a federal law for you to have the software to see your machine's data"...that's exactly what he said. I knew then he was a total idiot and I just needed to survive the night despite this yahoo.

We had a big fight over what mask to use when the first nasal mask caused congestion and I couldn't breathe and thus couldn't sleep. I said "get me a nasal pillow mask" and he says "no, you need a full face mask" and I say "no, I won't be congested if the damn mask isn't sitting on my nose"...finally I said "get me what I want to try or I am out of here". He relented and I got a crappy Optilife that was too big but we got it done. He said at the end of it that I was the first to use nasal pillows for titration and he was surprised it work. Dufus. You gotta let someone try something to see if it works or not.

It's no wonder that the pressure they came up with was wrong.
Thanks so much I didn't know if it was just me being a baby, but how strange for them to pick my mask and that's what will be ordered for me,, I don't get a choice? I thought that was so strange since I will be the one using it for year to come? I told him I was interested in the one without the band across my forehead,, f10 I think its called he said no this one it better for you. I get tired of no one hearing me,
Yeah, at my Dr. Office they said at the 2nd sleep study, they would "fit" me, and "show me all the did decent masks"
She didn't show me NOTHING she gave me a FF mask, said it was "the best" and that was the one I got with my machine.
I'm not too happy with the "PA" I saw either, she was weird.
I'm on my 3rd mask.
The PA. Said it was the suppliers "job" to find me the right mask.
I'm not happy with none of them.

Oh, on the bag from the mask, it shows the app to blue tooth to your machine Info.
So he had to be lying.

See my signature line for a link to the Medicare provider directory.
Your zip code will direct you to a list of medicare providers within 5 miles. (you can expand search radius)
The green "M" will indicate contracted providers, who have agreed to Medicare prices.
By all means, consider shopping around.
IT IS YOUR RIGHT.

I just had my one-year follow-up with the sleep doc and found out something interesting on this subject. (Background: My original DME was SleepMed, but they lost their Medicare contract, so I need a new DME.) The Medicare provider directory only shows a couple of approved DMEs within 100 miles of my home, but the doc gave me a list of about 6 in my area. Most (including the one he recommended) didn't show up on the directory because their headquarters are 300 miles away. So at least with some DME's, the directory listing goes by the headquarters office, not the local outlets. A pretty inefficient system!!!

Did they fix this? I searched and got 33 results in my zip code. Some of them are company headquarters with addresses hundreds of miles from my zip code.

If you do not need the assistance of a DME, consider an online supplier.

Versus is on your list.
