Recommended places for used machines?

Post by EdNerd » Sun Apr 23, 2017 3:25 pm

Can y'all share your recommendations for where to buy a used machine? I've seen SecondWindCPAP.com mentioned - is there anywhere else? I'm leery of Craigslist - if I knew more about machines, it might not be so bad, but I think it would be too easy for a newbie to get suckered into something too old for too much money.

(I did search to see if there was a previous thread listing such recommendations, but couldn't find one. If I've overlooked this, can someone drop-kick me in the right direction, please? One reason I'm asking is for a friend whose insurance deductible is over $2500 and won't be able to get a machine for quite some time.)

craigslist is pretty easy, you do your research before you start looking. pick a few good models, and then only look for those listings.

resmed s9 or airsense10 autoset, respironics system one 60 series auto (REF 560) or dreamstation auto. Krelvin's machine database is a good reference too: https://sleep.tnet.com/cmd

get the provider/clinical manual for whichever machine, and learn how to get into the menu, and check the non-resettable total hours of the machine.

meet at a public location that has power outlets so the machine can be plugged in, tested, and the hours verified. (coffee shops, etc)

examine the machine for cleanliness, including under the display (the recent clean looking machine that had roach poop inside the display is an example) shine a light into the intake behind the filter and the outlet, it should look clean. smell the intake and outlet *with the machine off* to see if there are any smells, like cigarette smoke or other. with the machine running there may be too much fresh air flow to smell any faint stink.

that's pretty much it.

Do you have a prescription? If so, you can get one from just about anywhere.

Try this place, too. I got several of mine from them.

If you can wait a bit, forum member grayghost4 is an excellent source for used machines. Right now, he isn't home (wife getting surgery in MN), but he usually has several good buys available all the time. Some things to consider when asking him - what is your budget? A machine with more use will cost less than one with low hours.
