Exercise Helps You Sleep Better

Post by bobby231 » Wed Apr 19, 2017 3:21 am

One way may be by the body-heating effects of exercise, especially when performed in the afternoon or later. Exercise triggers an increase in body temperature, and the post-exercise drop in temperature may promote falling asleep. Exercise may also reduce insomnia by decreasing arousal, anxiety and depressive symptoms.

It has never had that effect on me. Actually, it's quite the opposite...I get so jacked up for hours on end that I can't sleep at all.

If I had a nickle for every time I've heard this... I'd be very rich! I've been saying to myself that once it gets warmer I'll get out there and walk... or swim. Now I just have to do it.

The most common recommendation is not to exercise immediately before bed,
but long enough ahead of time to take advantage of the natural 'winding down" period afterward.

I go to the gym 4-5 times a week. I find on those days I always sleep better.

Exercise late in the day (we aren't even talking about night!) has done nothing but increase insomnia issues since I passed 35. Who comes up with this dumb stuff?
