S9 invalid data card issue

Post by jaybee72 » Thu Apr 13, 2017 7:43 pm

Hello - I've searched some on this, but while getting many results I don't see my particular issue coming up. Last fall my S9 auto suddenly started showing the "invalid data card" error, and I simply pulled the card out. Now that I'm looking at an upcoming physical, and need my doc to write a new prescription (last one is about 7 years old and DME won't take it) I would like to gather some data to carry in with me. When I got him to write that last one he gave me grief about it being time for a new sleep study, since the only one I had was in 2007. I convinced him instead to prescribe the auto, and that I'd watch the data myself.

Anyway, tried to clear the card and start over. After a format on my pc I could insert it in the machine, allow it to "erase" the card and then download summary data. If leave it in a couple of days I get detailed data, too. But, following all the safety procedures to pull it into sleepyhead like locking it, properly ejecting, etc the S9 gets angry when I put it back in. It gives the invalid message with the option of ejecting or erasing, but errors out when you tell it to erase. The only way to make it work again is to reformat on the PC, and then it will erase in the machine and start taking data.

I bought a new card and have exactly the same results.

Could Win10 still be writing a hidden file or something even though its write protected?

So, I can get data in a very cumbersome way, but why is it not just working right?

Thank you!

I figured that others might have run into this. Any suggestions anyone?

Thank you

Windows *should* not be writing data, but it might be possible.
Many years ago, I was working with a virus infected Mac computer. Even though I used a write-protected (locked) floppy disk to clean the computer, the virus wrote it's infection to the disk. The program I ran cleaned the virus off the original computer though.

I guess a test would be to put the locked card in your computer, open file eplorer, & try to copy a file to the card. If it copies, the computer is ignoring the fact the card is locked. A different card reader might behave differently.

I would be wondering if the little lock thingy you have to slide on the SD card to write protect the card is working properly.
If it was me I would probably get a new SD card and see if the problem persists with a new card.

Alternately there is a way to remove the Windows file that the S9 is seeing and not liking.
I had to do it a couple of times myself because I would forget to write protect my card after I upgraded to Windows 10.

rmdir "System Volume Information" /s /q

at the contents of the SD card window hold down the shift key and right click mouse...and choose Open command window and paste the above in the black window.

it could be, try sticking a SD card into your card reader, and try writing something on it when it's write protected.

the slider on a sd card is just a plastic tab, there should be a switch in the card reader that detects that tab, a few card readers don't have the write protect switch, and like all switches, it could go bad.

you can try telling windows not to write anything to removable media:
