I need a new cpap machine

Post by nmevan » Mon Apr 17, 2017 5:28 pm

hello

my 5 year old PR System One REMstar BiPAP Auto with Bi-Flex cpap machine is on the fritz.
I need to purchase a new one (and hopefully my blue shield of ca health insurance will reimburse me for most of it)

the one that cpap.com offers as a replacement is the
PR System One REMStar 60 Series BiPAP Auto with Bluetooth and Heated Tube Humidifier

I don't really need the bluetooth or the heated tube humidifier...

can any of you fine people give me a thumbs up or thumbs down on the new replacement? Or perhaps make a better suggestion?

thank you

Evan

The PR S1 models have been discontinued and that is likely why the good deal on the PR S1 760 with humidifier and Bluetooth.
You could probably shop around and find just the blower without humidifier but it doesn't look like cpap.com has one....but you might call and ask them if they have one without humidifier.

New model line is called DreamStation BiPap Auto
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-dre ... chine.html

If you want to change to ResMed there is the discontinued S9 VPAP Auto (which is comparable to your PR S1 BiPAP auto)
or ResMed's latest model line in their bilevel machines...AirCurve 10 VAuto (which is comparable to your machine now).

thanks, Pugsy

I'm afraid I'm not well versed in machines

I'm at the mercy of whatever is being sold at cpap.com

do they actually sell discontinued items? or are you suggesting going elsewhere?

thanks again

Evan

Everybody sells last years models of anything as long as they still have them in inventory.
So that's likely why cpap.com still offers the PR S1 BiPAP auto with bluetooth and they packaged the humidifier with it and marked it down to move the inventory.
I wouldn't be afraid of a "discontinued" item if the savings was substantial. Heck, I buy used to save money.
No, I am not suggesting going someplace else. I mentioned the discontinued part just to explain why it is on "sale" and that there is a newer model available...just in case having the latest and greatest is hugely important to you. Some people don't care but some people want the newest model of anything.

You can of course get the DreamStation BiPap Auto model which is the "latest" model but the differences between the PR S1 and the DreamStation are in minor feature details only. The algorithm for how it goes about doing its job didn't change when they changed models.

For a bilevel machine...the only 2 brands I would consider for myself are ResMed and Respironics. I have used both and did well with both.
Since you are used to the Respironics way of doing things then I would suggest that you stay with Respironics but if you are someone like me who just likes to try out new stuff for the heck of it then you might try the ResMed.
There are very minor pros and cons with either brand but none or deal breakers or deal makers IMHO at least for me.

The BlueTooth thing...useless for you anyway. It can be turned off. I think the DreamStations all have it built in anyway...but again easy to turn off.

You can save money with the PR S1 BiPAP Auto even with the humidifier...substantial savings. You don't have to use the humidifier if you don't want to. It can be attached and turned off (having it attached will help muffle motor noise a bit) or you can just remove it and maybe sell if if you don't want the humidifier.
Ask cpap.com what they do about warranty on the PR S1 BiPap Auto...since it has been discontinued but its still new to you...would they still give you a 2 year warranty with it...that would be my only question about that model. I would assume they would still warranty it even though it is going to be technically out of warranty sooner than the DreamStation would be.

I have a brand new Respironics Dreamstation bipap auto with zero hours available. It comes with humidifier, tubing, filters, sd card, and carry case. I'm asking $600 shipped in the US and I will include a new mask. Let me know if you're interested.
