Resmed s9 model 36005

Post by pck3 » Wed Apr 12, 2017 1:55 pm

I am looking to buy a bilevel. The one I am looking at says bilevel on it..... but the 36005 indicates it's a auto cpap..... Which one is it? I guess ti know for sure would to be to check the menus right? Should have different settings for a auto cpap vs a bilevel?

I am new to this and they sure dont make it easy.....

The ResMed S9 model 36005 is NOT a bilevel machine...it's an AutoSet model.
If it was bilevel the model name would say VPAP on it somewhere along with maybe S or Auto.
When in doubt...model number is what you go by.

Do you need auto adjusting bilevel capabilities or would a fixed bilevel suit your needs?
The reason I ask is that there is a forum member needing to sell a low hour AirCurve 10 S model.
A little over $200 I think it was and that included shipping. If interested I can point you to the thread. Very low hours though and I think last price was $220. If it had auto adjusting capabilities I would own it but I don't want another fixed bilevel (already have one).

The guy I was looking to buy from is on craigslist. Older guy. But he said it said bi level on it. And as pointed out above I guess it would say vpap not bilevel. Dr didnt suggest an auto but I would like one. Idk maybe I am wrong but auto seems like the way to go. No insurance so trying to find a lightly used for now.

Also I have already sent the guy a msg about aircurve because it seems like an amazing price. There was someone that messaged him right before me. If that falls through I might pick it up.

A lot of Craigslist sellers don't know what they have.
No machine says "bilevel" on it anyway...they use other names.
Respironics bilevel machines have "BiPap" clearly stated on the blowers.
ResMed has VPAP on the S9 and AirCurve 10 on the newer models.

What are your pressure needs that your doctor wants you to use? Maybe the AutoSet could be set up to fit those needs using EPR....it's a thought if your pressure needs aren't horribly high and you can get away with PS of 3 or less.

I have a Respironics bilevel Auto...PR S1 model 760 Auto BiPap with around 800 hours on it that I might could be talked into parting with if you are interested in Respironics. Send me a PM for further information. I have 3 machines...and don't need 3..
Humidifier, heated hose, travel case and all that stuff included.

Start around 15. But i don't have anymore details other than a 5 min discussion. We briefly talked about it on the phone. I have an appointment next week. It's just a Dr. However. Not any sort of expert or sleep specialist. I realize I will be.doing most of this on my own with this forums help. I will be sure to get a copy of the report sent from the sleep study tho.

Ahhh...if you are starting at 15 you may end up needing more than the AutoSet can offer. The maximum it will go to is 20 where the real bilevel machines will go to 25 and sometimes people needing pressures in the high teens do better with more than the 3 cm difference between inhale and exhale that EPR can offer.
Probably best to target a real bilevel machine just to keep all your options open.
Pressure support (the difference between inhale and exhale) on the bilevel machines will go higher than 3 cm (which is all that EPR will do) and it's that difference that offers the comfort. So you might need more than 3 cm difference to be comfortable not to mention your doctor may want you to use a bigger difference for some reason.

Ok that makes sense. I will see what the dr says. Thanks for the advice.
