I just took the damn thing off,
It is and was driving me crazy and TOO HOT!
Question, do the nasal masks have a exhale port.
Anyone having success with a nasal mask, but had to use a chin strap?
I agree a FFM is/was just too hot for me.
All masks will have an exhale port.
I started w/FFM, then a nasal, then nasal pillows.
I used a combination of things as a chin strap doesn't work for most people.
Try sleeping w/a sports mouth guard - it forces you to keep your lips together and tongue in place.
Use a cervical collar if you have one - also HOT.
Sleep on your side w/neck & spine straight.
Hold a pillow up under your chin while sleeping.
But most important is being aware of how you breath when you are awake, during the day, learn to breath thru your nose while awake first.
When you sleep you will default to what you have done ALL day.

Interesting, I will try to keep that in mind.
Thank You

That is absolutely not true - that how you breathe while awake and upright will necessarily translate to how you breathe when lying down and on Cpap.

Julie, I don't know 1st. Hand, but I asked my brother, I "Sucked it up and called him)
He basically said the same thing, so I do t know?
The human body is a incredible" machine" so it's hard to say what this incredible body and mind can do.
May just work for the above poster and not for you,
May or May not work for me.
Seemed to work for my out of state Brother?
Only God knows.

You are going to find that forum members tend to recommend what they found that works well for them and they will tend to discourage stuff that they have either had problems with or problems. It's just the nature of the beast..that's how we are. When we hear "congestion" some people think "too much humidity" and some people think "too little humidity" and sometimes we miss the part about the congestion being present even before cpap was ever started.
Totally agree. As an example.

My mom and I live in the same house. We have the same model machine and mask (Resmed S9 Autoset and Quattro FX size small). My mom does NOT use the humidifier at all. No water, plain hose. I use the climateline hose, low temp setting and a setting of 5 out of 6 on the humidifier. Personal preference can be very different, even in the same location with the same equipment.

As Pugsy mentioned, it is best to give a variety of options and let the new people figure out what works best for them. That could be humudifier (high or low), or even straight pressure vs auto. Most of us do better one way or the other. So, it is worth experimenting.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Yeah, I'm having her bring a chinstrap this time, and I am trying an amer view FF mask.
I did seem to sleep decent last night, but didn't sleep long enough, and again, super dry mouth.
So I shut it off, and slept about another hour. and decided to get up.
But I'm starting to crash a bit now. I was having a little trouble with the mask last night, and had to fuss with a bit, after I un did the one side to scratch my nose.......lol , but it was tending to leak around my nose.
(why do we always get itchy when we cant scratch?)
not the strap's that you hook to the mask, but the other ones above them. I forget now if I had to push the mask tighter, or make it a tad looser. Think I had to loosen it a bit. I went back to the first mask for now.
I am still learning the adjustments for the humidity.
I think there is Humidity, and heat.
IDK, I think the dry mouth is what is waking me up, but it's hard to tell.

I read somewhere and found from experience that long nose hairs can make the nose itch. It feels like it is itching on the outside, but the inside is the issue. I guess the CPAP air makes them move all around, tickling.
Perhaps this experience can help you. Just a thought.

Here is a link to a newer version of what I use. Sometimes I need to use tweezers for the occasional straggler, though, Be sure to rinse the trimmer after each use.

Mine just has the long head. In my experience, the rotary head units do not work well, but that head on this one may be different.

I can't stand the tickle feeling, so I go through a big process of blowing my nose multiple times until I am sure it feels dry. Then I do the mask quickly and roll over to sleep. If I do not fall asleep within 15-20 minutes, I will have to start over. This is why I cannot watch tv with cpap. All I do is feel my nose tickle. Thankfully, once I mastered my mask fit (6 weeks and new smaller headgear), I do usually get it right and fall asleep within 10 minutes.

Good, you're doing good.
I went to bed about 11:00, fooled around on the Internet a bit, slept on and off, dry mouth big time, so I'm back up.
Got up to get a drink, left it off for just now.
Again, don't know If it's the dry mouth.
Still waiting o my chin strap.
Are you using a full face?
(you did say new mask)
I'm on Mobil app, it don't show the equipment either.
Ill keep trying.

well she brought my chin strap and amera view mask.
Hope this is better.
The chin strap looks like a headband almost with Velcro.
I thought it might be more detailed, but that's all it is.
There is 2 Velcro straps too, To keep it from going too far forward.
I forget already, I think/guess they hook to the mask straps Right?
I have to start sleeping better, I don't think this is helping my depression.

Don't you (anyone) usually put the chinstrap on first then the mask.
She said mask first and then the chinstrap.
I'll have to try it I guess.
Really feel like making them take the machine back.

People do the chin strap/ mask thing both ways. Some prefer to put the mask on first and some prefer to put the chin strap on first. Whatever works for you is okay...no real "right" way or wrong way.
If you have a tendency to remove the mask in the middle of the night and not realize it...sometimes putting the chin strap over the mask will help a person not remove the mask in the middle of the night.
