Data From New Mask

Post by DeeCPAP » Tue Mar 28, 2017 10:22 am

This info is the first night using my new full face mask, Amera View. My old mask, DreamWear leaked when I opened my mouth while sleeping, so doc ordered it. Can someone tell me if the new mask is working properly? I think the settings are okay, but not sure. The tech increased the pressure from 5-8 to 5-10 recently.

In terms of large leak or time spent in large leak....not even 1% of the night was spent in large leak.
So sealing very well.

In terms of AHI....very decent therapy. You may or may not end up wanting a slight increase in the therapy pressure but at this point I wouldn't do anything.

So yeah..looks like it is doing what it is supposed to do.

How was your sleep quality last night? Wake often or sleep soundly? It took me a few nights to get the point where I was sleeping soundly with the Amara View because I wasn't used to having so much stuff on my face but once I did I slept fairly decently with it.

THANK YOU, PUGSY! As for sleeping, yes, it was okay (so was sleeping with the DreamWeaver but the data showed large leaks. However, the mask is tight, so it made the tip of my nose red and it'll probably will stay red for hours due to sensitive skin. I'm afraid to try a larger cushion because the rest of the mask may then be too loose (and leak). Is there a solution? Thanks

A little bit of Lansinoh lanolin ointment/cream on the tip of the nose area ...maybe?
Fiddle with the strap tension just a little. It shouldn't be horribly tight to seal. I found that it sealed quite well with minimal tension.
Too tight can cause the skin to become abraded and you don't want that.

Don't discount trying a different size cushion too quickly...it might be just the ticket to fitting better.
From what I have read the frame part of the mask is universal size and the next size large is just a little "deeper" and it might not touch the tip of your nose in the same way.

Did you get the fit pack with all sizes of cushions or just the one cushion size?

What size cushion do you have? I have an Amara View that does not work for me. I have the small & medium masks, both very lightly used.
If it would not freak you out, I might me able to send you the Medium mask for the cost of shipping.

I didn't get the fit pack. Doc simply ordered "medium". I don't know why docs don't know there tends to be an
issue with sizes and should order the pack, but they're not trained well enough to know -- a real shame.

Did your mask package come with the little guide for measuring optimal cushion size?
If not I think that there is one you can print off and check sizing.

This is NEWER data from last night. I think this mask (medium) didn't work as well as the SMALL, but the small felt too tight.

You had more large leak time last night than the night before which may or may not be related to mask size used.
We can have some fairly significant variations in any of the results without ever changing a thing.
I might have 5% of the night in large leak one night and 15% the next night and the next night never go into large leak territory and never change a thing.
This is why we try to get more than one night of data before we go changing anything.....so we can get an overall pattern or trend ideas as to what is going on.

Use the size that is most comfortable for you...and use it for several nights and then see how the leaks are trending.
The change in size may or may not have been the cause of the change in leak numbers.
It's still not a bad number though...3 % of the night in large leak...not the end of the world at all.
6 hours...3 % would be approx 10 minutes...not the end of the world at all as long as you slept well and leaks didn't wake you up.

Thanks, Pugsy. As for how I felt today, it felt like I hadn't slept at all, but it just may be the stress I'm under. I'll keep giving it time and upload more numbers. Thanks!

There is one on line, there is a "quarter within a credit card" size test also.
But the measuring guide basically just measures the length from your lip, to the tip of your nose.
I have the medium, but seems to need to be a little wider at the ends of my mouth.
She is bringing a large, but looks to me it will not be any wider.
I'll say it again, neither the doctor, or the DME (hope that correct?) seem to be helping me at all.
I have learned more here.
Didn't think there were going to be all these issues.
