I don't know. We really don't have anything to measure reliability by. We have to take the manufacturer's word. I have never seen a real comparison or reliability document. And even if it was 100% accurate...just how critical is it to know....I just don't know.

If you do think you do better in cpap mode...there's a way to set the machine in apap mode so that it functions more like cpap mode functions. That's easy to do.
Maybe you didn't have the apap minimum pressure on your old S8 set optimally and it was too low or you were having issues with the pressure changes in apap mode.

Often people think that apap mode means you can set it wide open and let the machine sort it out but that doesn't work so great if the pressure needed is higher than where the machine can get to in a timely manner.
It works great when not much pressure is needed but doesn't work so great if considerable more pressure is needed because it takes too long to get there.
Setting of 4 to 20 works great if all you need is maybe 8 cm pressure....won't work well at all if you need 10 or more. Heck, I saw a big difference just between a minimum of 8 and a minimum of 10 in auto mode.

Yep. Either close together or even min and max exactly the same which essentially makes it work just like cpap mode.

The best AHI in the world doesn't mean squat if you feel horrible getting there.
Now why you felt worse even with a narrow range...I have no idea unless you are just super sensitive to the least little pressure variation and that wouldn't be impossible.

We often suggest people use apap mode with minimum set to equal maximum on those Respironics apap machines so we can get FL flags (which are turned off in cpap mode and turned on in apap mode) when people preferred fixed pressures.
